just showing up can be good

well the weather gods apparently hate the idea of 5 K my way. after a wonderful start last week, the winter came back sunday in the form of rain, sleet, clouds, wind and other generalized UGH. when today promised to be the same i just figured i would postpone the training until things get a little better. but as i was doing my sansone walk in the house i realized that the hideous-ness predicted wasn't here yet. so after 3 miles with leslie i threw on some outdoor clothes and hurried over to the park. about halfway there i realized that the rain that had fallen earlier had frozen as the temp dropped and the wind picked up.
got to the park and decided to just give it the old college try and see what happened. there were patches of invisible ice all over the place, but i stuck to the shoulders of the roads on the grass, and tried to avoid open areas where the wind was howling across. was really cold and unpleasant, but i got all my time in. couldn't concentrate much on my chi-running because i was busy trying not to fall down. speed wasn't the best either--but i am a big believer that SHOWING UP can be just as important as the finer points at certain times. today was one of those days. despite the disgusting weather i felt good and really enjoyed being there. i really love to jog or run--whatever the proper term is--i would say if i had to describe what i do jogging comes closest. i am really looking forward to getting my endurance up so i can do a sustained run. but for now i will be perfectly happy with just showing up!

I have to agree that there is a lot to be said for "just showing up" =) -- good for you! I tend to spend too much time overthinking (overplanning, overanalysing... ;-)!) , and I'm always pleasantly surprised when I just stop thinking so much and just do it! The beauty of running is that you can just pull on those shoes and go. I'm sure we'll both be 5King before too long!!
