Holy cow....

Last night, I was getting ready to fix dinner, and was waiting on a call from my hubby to say he was heading home. He had to drive to a different location and was in a meeting. As it turned out, he was not going to make it home from the meeting in time to eat, change clothes, and get to basketball practice. (We coach my son's 5-6 year old team.) So I loaded the three kids up to meet at McDonald's for dinner.

I am HAPPY to report that we both ordered a Classic Grilled Chicken, no mayo. Instead of fries, (which I love) I ordered a Fruit & Yogurt Parfait. Wow, that felt so good.

It felt good to be tempted, and to make a good decision. I know that I could do it, but to actually go in there and make it felt nice.

AND....While we were eating, my husband and I looked at the nutritional information. Our old stand by meal, a #2 large, was 1100 calories!!!!!!! That doesn't include the large sweet tea with at least one refill that we normally have. (The tea was not even on the nutritional menu. I can't imagine how many calories with all that sugar!) WOWZA!!! I can't believe what I was doing to myself!!

So, I learned a lot last night. First, I can have fast food from time to time. Also, I don't need the garbage. I used to crave it, just like (I would assume) a smoker craves cigarettes. But now, I don't crave it anymore!! I really feel like I was addicted to that junk. A real fast foos addiction was what I was dealing with daily. I may always struggle with it, but I know that God made my body to crave the good stuff, the natural foods.

I feel delivered. I am so thankful to God for the heart change He is doing with in me! WOW!!

I have found myself feeling ill just to think about what I used to eat.

My daughter came in with a small Taco pizza last night, she ate it right in front of me and it didn't bother me. There wasn't one part of me that wanted any. I had a great (healthy) dinner & I was happy.

You go girl. That is a nice feeling to be standing in front of temptation for me is the vending machine and get the right thing. Some how the water is so much more satisfying after I get it. 1100 calories wow. I look at some of the things I used to eat in utter shock. even when i thought I was doing good.I look before I eat now. Thanks for sharing.

I know what you mean. The calories really sneak up on you. Another idea: leave out the bread. It isn't whole wheat anyway, so it cuts out a lot of refined carbs, which aren't good for you anyway. I'd rather get those calories another way! I work for McDonalds and am a manager and get my meals free, so I ahve to be really careful what I eat. it's really hard to resist the temptation to eat junk! Anyway, Way to go and keep up the good work! emoticon

Great blog!! I know, it's hard to believe how many calories and how much fat are in those combination meals. I had McDonald's on the way down to Wash D.C. last night, and I picked one of the healthier choices in the "Eat This, No That" book that I keep in my van. The fruit and yogurt was a perfect addition to your meal, and I wish I thought of that last night!

emoticon on making good choices! I was totally addicted to fast food too and it sucked. Now, for the most part it doesn't even sound good anymore. I still have it from time to time but I don't crave it anymore. It's amazing how many calories that stuff can have! Keep up the great work!
