Getting It Going

Monday, February 14, 2011

I'm a big believer in the power of social media. It's my "day-job" after all.

I read a blog post on a great site - Lifehacker.com - all about personal productivity and improvement. It talked about the use of a mild degree of public humiliation as a motivating factor for weight loss and fitness.

I put it out there to my friends on Facebook (but not Twitter and LinkedIn as those I use 100% for business) - I'm out to lose 40 lbs by Labor Day. If I meet that goal, I will purchase for myself an iPad (or similar device), or give myself some sort of extrinsic treat of some sort.

I'm not in terrible shape. In fact at 240 lbs I was able to jump onto a treadmill and successfully run a 5K in about 32 minutes within minimal trauma. I'm a little thick, but I've dropped weight successfully in the past. I tend to derail in times of illness (like a bad headcold), or I just get lazy and start over-portioning the wrong foods.

I'll keep a record here as well as on my Facebook page.

You have taken a giant first step! Kudos to you! If you have to pick one thing to focus on, make it food tracking. The nutrition tracker is my bff! (you know, the one you love so much it's okay to hate at times, that kind of bff) LOL It really puts things in perspective. You have a totally attainable goal and emoticon
