Today I tried to do something nice for others, but it wasn't very easy to do!

Sunday, February 13, 2011

My 4 / 5 year old Sunday Schoolers were learning about giving to others, so I had them make valentine cards to hand out to local nursing home residents. When I tried to call the nursing home to let them know my plan, I got a negative response. I was upset until I realized that she thought this was going to cause her more work. So I took a deep breath and decided not to let that person's reaction color my day. I offered to walk around handing out the cards with the help of my sister. We actually had a more positive response, and we were treated very nicely by the rest of the staff! We saw many smiles and heard many thanks from the residents receiving the cards. My sister and I felt pretty good about the whole experience.

WHAT I LEARNED TODAY:

NO matter how good your intentions, your experience may not be what you expect. IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO GIVE UP. Your positive attitude is more important than your outcome. Who knows, things may just work themselves out in the end and the results of your efforts may surprise you!

I'm glad you kept at it and were able to share your students' work and make life happier for some other folks.

Agreed! I'm sorry things didn't go well at first but happy that all worked out for you. Perseverance and persistence pay off!

Not a Packer fan, are you? I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, way back when.
