It's been a great day of pushing the envelop for me!

Starting off with my first trip to use the Riverwalk Athletic Club:

Couple of pics:

Loved their ellipticals! A Cybex and an Octane Pro 3700:

The Octane has a unique, sort of curvy motion to the swing of the leg which agrees with me well. Wasn't sure what the resistance settings were in terms of range, so started with a "20"...it was okay, but then monkeyed with the various programs and the Cardio one looked like a more challenging one. And was it EVER! Intervals between a resistance of 45 and 60! It has an arm building feature where you've got to REALLY push & pull...getting some ST in with the cardio!

Spent over an hour on the ellipticals with some weights & strength training in between. Also spent some time on the recumbent stationary but that wasn't as satisfying...couldn't seem to make it do a random program...which I like as it mimics the open road a little better that way. So I didn't stick with it for too long. Used the free weights and a few of the machines.

Couple gripes: the pool is not yet use-able...they say it should be soon. I'm going to speak up about this being a crucial feature if they want to garner my membership! Towels are supposed to be available for working out and showering...but they only had hand towels...had run out of the full-sized ones.

They do have further expansions planned and it does seem promising. I liked the mix of age groups...the young college kids from Binghamton University, middle aged & seniors. Pretty much anyone would fit in.

Anyhow after finishing at the fitness center I had to go pick up a ton of wood pellets for our pellet stove. This means two runs as I don't dare put more than a 1/2 ton on my minivan at a time. Also at the same time my other car was at the repair shop (rack & pinion, for the low-low price of $1,000...yee hah!). I had come back to pick up the other half ton hoping also to pick up the car as well...but it wasn't done.

So here I am at Northgate plaza with Otsiningo Park waving at me and saying "c'mon! I know how you can kill an hour while you wait!" So off I go! It was cold and blustery right then and not exactly inviting:

My initial reluctant self:

The wind was at my back pushing me along and I'm like "great, that's gonna be fun to work against on my way back!"

But I make the most of it. I wasn't prepared for a walk / jog and didn't have any gloves, but stuck my hands in my pockets till I got pumped up...I knew I wouldn't have to keep 'em in there for long!

The sun is TRYING to make a comeback...!

And the sky opens up!

By now I'm pretty pumped and jogging right along. Occasionally stopping for pics, but getting right back at it (intervals, right?) after I snap the shot.

Earlier this week while making my way to my office I passed a pedestrian who meant well when he said: "Speed-walking! All right!"

Me? Hmpf! Wait a minute fella, don't you know JOGGING when you see it? It's a whole different gait! :-)

Great tunes pumping me along as ever...Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" had me (first checking to see if anyone was around...lol!) clapping in time with the music and my stride!

Here's a little split for northbound / southbound "traffic":

One of the things I LOVE about our Otsiningo Trail ( www.gobroomecounty.com/p
) is the way that it makes use of land that was at one time "wasted" and tucked away beside and beneath the interstate as though it was the armpit of the county, BUT with the trail and enhancements around it the trail is transformed into a welcoming embrace to our area! I know public spending is going through some tough times now, but I can't stress enough how absolutely VITAL it is to maintain and enhance the walk-ability / bike-ability for the quality of life we all want and need in our communities. Be sure to let your politicians know how important this is to you!

On the return, homeward stretch I'm pleasantly surprised at the change in the direction of the wind...it continues to nudge me from behind. "Go," Mother Nature says, "GO!"

I'm looking much happier now! :-)

And the sun then REALLY came out, filling me with visions of spring and summer riding on my bike!

Here's my little mighty mite, power source for all things physical and SPARKIN' (1200-1300 tunes!):

On to tackling that OTHER half ton waiting to be lugged onto our porch and stacked for the remainder of the cold season!

Finished with all of this my body is WASTED and sore in good ways!

Looking forward to more fun at the fitness center! :-)

Some closing thoughts and tunes on the theme of "Wasted":

"So much time to make up
Everywhere you turn
Time we have wasted on the way

So much water moving
Underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away

So much love to make up
Everywhere you turn
Love we have wasted on the way

So much water moving
Underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away"

Care to give it a listen?:

Here's another, probably even MORE appropriate ode to waste!:

Wrap up your weekend with LOTS of SPARK!

What a great day! Thanks for the pics... Awesome!
I haven't been to that park in a long time. I will have to try and stop by there on my way through next time. I used to love to go there when my kids were little and I lived nearby. Your pictures brought back great memories of my son (now 23 and in the army) in the stroller and my daughter (now 26 and a mommy) on her training wheel bike. Brings a smile to my face!! emoticon

Woo hoo! You sure made the most of your day! Glad you liked the fitness center--it sounds like a pretty nice place.

Thanks for comments on my blogs! We don't even have slop and glop yet--just ice that should start melting in earnest with today's 40 plus temperatures and sunshine.

Haha!! Love the self-portraits! And you're so right, we are truly blessed with an abundance of trails to utilize. Even better that they are generally kept cleared, even after a snow.

Glad you had such a wonderful day! Hope today is just as good!

Loved the pictures of your journey! So cool!

It is supposed to get into the 40s here today. I am giving serious thought to a very long walk. Perhaps I'll bring my camera along and record my own journey around town!

I am tired just reading about your day! That trail looks awesome. There were so many great places to walk/run in Austin - I really miss that.

But wait, there's no snow on that trail! And barely any by it - what's up with that? Maybe we'll look like that after next week & the warm temps, but right now we've got snow banks almost as tall as me!
