NEW Fitness Features: 5K Training Plans, Virtual Races and More

At SparkPeople, we're continuously improving the site by adding new features to help our members reach their goals. Today, we're happy to launch several new running tools and features: a brand new Running Center, our 5K Your Way training plans, and Virtual Races!

Many of our most successful members have taken up running as a way to lose weight, get fit, and stay motivated. Running is a great way to challenge your body, burn more calories, and reach new health and fitness goals!

Not a runner yet? Don't worry: You can start out with our comprehensive Walking Guide, and still benefit from the new resources below (read on).

SparkPeople's Running Center
With dozens of brand new running articles, training tips, supportive SparkTeams, and easy access to all of our new running features, this is your one-stop-shop for starting or continuing a running program! You can always get to it easily from the Fitness Resource Center (under the Healthy Lifestyle tab) or at www.SparkPeople.com/running.

5K Your Way Training Plans
We created four different training programs to help walk or run a 5K based on where you are right now! Our "5K Your Way" plans provide weekly training emails, interactive calendars to track your workouts, printable training plans, and support from other members who are following the same plan. Choose from three 5-week training programs (walking, walk/jog intervals, running) or our beginner "Rookie Running" program (8 weeks)!

Virtual Races
Our Virtual Race feature allows you to compete against yourself—and other members—any week of the year. Simply map out your own route, complete your race, and then share your results here. This is a great way to set a new goal and stay accountable!

Join the Spark Into Spring Virtual 5K!
To kick off these new features and keep you motivated to work out this winter, we're hosting a special Virtual 5K this spring. If you join any of the 5K Your Way training plans now, you'll have time to train and complete our Spark Into Spring Virtual 5K (the week of April 10-16)! Everyone who participates will receive a printable certificate, and will be entered to win fun prizes like SparkPeople T-shirts or a $100 gift certificate to Zappos.com (use it for a new pair of running shoes!).
