Do I have to stop eating the foods I love?

A few years ago when I went on this SP lifestyle, I learned that I would only be able to eat 1 slice of pizza at a meal in order to lose weight. NO WAY! I didn't know if I could do it, so I learned a few tricks that can be applied to all of our favorite foods!

#1: If you like it, don't cut it out of your intake. That feels like deprivation, and makes you want it more. If you must have it, have it! Just make sure you are aware of how it goes with your intake for the day or week. Use the nutrition tracker, or at least write it down. People who keep track of food intake in one way or another are more successful than people who don't. I know this from my own experience. When I track, I stay on track!

#2: Find a healthy version of your favorite recipe and make it yourself.
My family makes our own pizza with whole wheat crust, less cheese, and tons of veggies. Now I can eat 2 slices! I also have healthy versions of many of my favorite recipes in my binder, thanks to SP, internet research, and magazines.

#3: Make the serving sizes smaller. For example: Cut the pizza "party style". You can still only eat a quarter of the pizza, but you get 4 pieces instead of 1 or 2 which feels like indulgence. Or take a smaller portion size when you eat anything. You eat less calories, and if you have “seconds” you are not really having “seconds”. Great brain trick!

#4: Make a smaller amount of the dish in the first place. Who says you always have to have leftovers?

#5: If you do make a large amount, immediately pack away the extra in single serving size containers. Cold frozen stored food isn't as appetizing as fresh hot food! Bonus, you have quick easy future meals!

#6: Eat a huge dark green lettuce salad with your favorite low cal dressing right before or with your favorite food. The dark lettuces like romaine make me more full so I want less of the food I crave. It also helps me get move vegetables.

#7: Eat slowly and savor every bite. If you love it, slow down and enjoy it!!!

Psssst: I am also a chocolate lover. No way was I giving that up! I use many of these ideas to make sure I could keep eating it. I buy dark chocolate, I only eat a small amount daily, I am aware of the calories and enter them in the tracker, and I enjoy every single bite!

    Like you, I try to make healthier versions of the foods I love. I make a pizza on a tortilla, loaded with veggies and light on the cheese. I have also done a pizza-fied chicken, ala Hungry Girl. You pound a boneless skinless chicken breast, fry it in non-stick spray, and then add your veggie toppings and a shredded low-fat piece of string cheese and broil it til the cheese melts. YUM! And I eat a little piece of dark chocolate a couple times a week (50 cals), that sure satisfies the sweet craving. And I certainly savor that little piece of chocolate!
    I have also been able to visit restaurants and eat healthy. Almost every restaurant anymore has light offerings--and they are usually quite tasty. Hate to give up going out with friends and/or family!
    Getting healthy doesn't mean you have to give up the things you love completely--just alter them a little bit! You have sure figured that out! Way to go girl!!
