WooHoo!! Water In AND Water Out!!!

Thursday, February 03, 2011

Got the water line capped off last night and so had water to everything but cold water to the kitchen sink. I use mostly hot water there, so it's no big deal.

In the meanwhile the water was seeping out of the basement. Since it has a dirt floor, I figured it was just soaking into the ground. I tried running hot water in case it was frozen, but no luck. I ran a wire down it far enough to figure out that the plug was outside the house.

This morning I ran more hot water, still no luck.

Had an appointment so had to leave for a while. Got back early this afternoon and tried again, but no luck again. So I filled a 5 gallon container with hot water and poured it down the cleanout in the yard. And did that 6 or 7 times until finally the water standing around the basement drain drained!!!

So now I have to figure out how to keep it from freezing again... I may just take a cap off from one of the cleanouts so that the moisture vents instead of freezing.

Here's what my lawn mowers looked like before the latest 6 inches of snow. I don't have a garage or storage shed (yet) so I just turn a wheelbarrow upside down over them. Bunny lives in the woodpile in front of him/her.

Have a good weekend.

Oh my....have you had enough winter yet? That picture brings back bad memories of when I lived in St. Paul, Minnesota and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvani (Go Steelers!). We do get snow up here in the mountains of southern California, but usually not more than a few inches at a time. I'm really sorry about your water issues....what a bummer. We had power outages the past few days due to 60-75 mph winds. No matter where you live, there are always nature's little surprises to deal with. Good luck!

So glad you got the water working!! woohoo :)
I love your yard pictures..it looks just like my yard but I have a garden shed..I just didn't get my lawn mower or my two roto tillers put away :( I'll pay for that in the spring..I am the queen of procrastination!! One of the things I like about the snow is it covers some of my unfinished fall jobs..now if it would just snow another foot or so to cover the rest of the handles....just kidding!!..I mean ..if it would just melt so I can put my stuff away :)..Love the new kitty pictures..I hope to get around to doing a cat blog and a dog blog..:)

Keep on Sparkin and enjoy the warm up (supposed to be colder again next week!!)
