2011 cancer research events/charity/donat

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

As you all know from reading my Spark Page, I do what I can to get involved as my way of supporting Cancer Research. The Komen Race is my favorite event to be involved with.

I've been introduced to the Relay for Life events (American Cancer Society) last year by my awesome Spark Friend Glazed_Donut so that's something I'll keep my eye out for.

What is YOUR favorite charitable event you like to get involved with or experience?

I also like to keep my eye out for apparel like these awesome motivational shirts! I can wear them for working out. They not only motivate me but they can motivate others that see me wearing it! Every purchase donates $1.00 to cancer research. The quality is great and the colors are appealing.

I'm not Mother Teresa, I don't have a lot of money to donate, I don't have a lot of time to involve myself in volunteering or committing elsewhere but I do SOMETHING.

How do you get involved? Do you save the tops from your yogurt cups? Do you volunteer your time visiting cancer patients? Do you sell merchandise and donate portions to an organization? Please share some of your stories and experiences here. I'd love to hear how other Sparkers help people affected by cancer.

Komen starts registering in April for our Houston race that takes place the first weekend in October. I will be posting a link once I'm registered for any of my Spark Friends who would like to donate (any amount) towards the charity on my behalf. My goal is always open but the minimum they ask of us is $100. Last year I raised$400. Wish me luck when the fund raising begins!

Keep a look out for the links and please keep me in mind if you're looking for a charity to donate to. emoticon

I also love the Komen race. I've been involved with that for about 5 years. My work get's involved wit a lot of charity's and I always partcipate in everything! I'm the same way as you where I don't have a lot of money, but it's definitley worth not having my Starbucks Mocha to donate to a good cause! You have to pay it forward. I believe that what you give will always come back to you in a positive way. Bring on the good karma.

Well done on your volunteer work!

I donate paper tea bag holders to a charity in Santiago and will be donating platelets next week! I also buy dog food at the supermarket and feed the stray dogs if they are around on my way back home

I checked out that website. I really like their stuff! I used to run the 10km run for the cure every year with my field hockey team. Now, since I live in the middle of nowhere... it's a bit trying to figure out what to get involved with. Last Christmas I donated 3 hours of my time to help with a cancer charity that organized a children's toy drive. The way that they made money was that I'd wrap presents on donation. I wanted to do it again this year but I wasn't able to find anyone to go with me. I asked all of my coworkers and family and no one showed interest. I'm really interested in doing a cancer run this spring. I'm also looking to join a soccer team this spring as well. I really hope that I can accomplish both!!!
