An Ode to Success and Fun

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

Yesterday, I was feeling the strength of renewal as we turned the calendar page from January to February. I started January with such promise, then I got sick and it was downhill from there..so I was happy to have a fresh month to have a fresh start with, and I began the day yesterday with so much resolve....I exercised, I ate well all day..I came home and shovelled for even more exercise..I had a great dinner already made..and it was a quick plummet downhill from there. Today's Daily Spark contains a blog about how it might be easier to develop and stick with good habits by making it fun. Here is my first, silly attempt at making this fun, not drudgery:

Why oh why do I eat at night?
I begin each day with a pledge that this time I will not be beat,.
Then, despite what I think is using all my might,
The floodgates open and I eat, eat, eat.

What do I eat?
Anything in sight,
Could be candy, cookies, bread or meat,
And if I keep this up, my future is not bright.

So today, I ask, how many days
Before it is too late?
And how many ways,
Can I try to get to the date,
That I finally figure this all out,
And find a way to stop myself,
To stand up and shout,
That the food will be left on the shelf??

I just read a blog,
That talked about trying to make it fun,
To cut through the fog,
And get the healthy living done!

Will wrting poetry work?
I don't know, honestly and truly,
But lest my responsibilities I shirk,
I must try something, really!

So, if talk like Yoda I must,
To get my words to rhyme,
It's Star Wars or bust,

I will not eat at night, I will not eat at night, I will not eat at night,
I promise this to you and me,
I pledge it, I swear it, I say with all my might,
That after dinner, I am going to lock my mouth and throw away the key!!!

This is the year, it has to be,
    For your biggest epiphany.

You've taken steps, you know the way,
You live healthier day by day.

You have the motive, know the reason,
You improve your efforts, season by season.

You've added exercise, you eat right,
You know the last block in your sight.

You will CONQUER the nightly urge to eat,
    a seemingly insurmountable feat.

I know it seems you've tried it all,
may be give someone a text or call.

(Really, if you need to keep your hands busy, text me or anyone... not trying to tell you what to do,or act like I have any answers, just offering the only thing I can think of that you haven't mentioned trying, to me.)

I've been into poetry in my blogs lately too. :-) Here's a little ditty to keep you going.

Apples are red, berries are blue.
Others lost weight, and we can too!

    Lifting weights, doing cardio
Exercise is the weigh to go!

If late-night snacking is stuck in my head,
I'll just grab a book and go to bed.

When I have trouble, I'll blog my way through it.
Using Sparkpeople, we can totally do it!

    Have a great day!
