a fine morning!

well--another day has dawned, the furnace kept us warm through the night, soda is acting much more herself and at our morning weigh in i was down TWO POUNDS. i am thrilled! i drank all my water yesterday, so i don't think it was from low hydration. two pounds is a fabulous number for me--three pounds at a time is the best i can ever do. soda goes to see her acupuncture vet tonight, so we can have her checked out to make sure nothing major is wrong.
on the other spark front--i have to say i have been so PROUD of rob the last few days. we had a little discussion about negative self talk, and i feel like he understood where i was coming from. he really wants to make a positive change for himself. last night he came home and told me the story of their office unit's lunch out. they went out for a member's birthday to a local mexican haunt. this place has long been a favorite of ours, but the menu choices are typically disastrous, starting with the free chips and salsa, which he adores, accompanied by numerous glasses of soda. but yesterday he went online before they left and chose his menu item ahead of time--a chicken burrito. had rice with it (i think he would eat rice, black beans and chicken until the end of the world) and limited himself to 10 chips and water to drink. this was still calorically over his limit somewhat, but it represents a huge step forward for him. he was eating MINDFULLY at a place where he usually just zones out and stuffs the food in (i have done that many times myself at that restaurant). and this morning i was watching him surruptitiously while he was doing his morning walk (he uses my sansone tapes) and he was really WORKING--keeping the pace and moving his arms with a lot of energy. he has come a long way with the boot camp workouts from nicole as well--last night he actually held a plank.
this morning we talked about water intake and he is going to start working on that. the 2 pound weight gain he saw this morning (i feel certain it was the mexican holiday) was enough to get him to listen to the idea that drinking more water keeps you from retaining so much when you eat salty stuff.
he took the weight gain in stride--but i know he is thinking about it and forming strategies for doing better.
so we all began this morning in a much better place than yesterday--and we both survived yesterday with our focus still intact, which is probably the best part of all.
