Back to the gym!

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

I walked over to the gym that is right down the street from our new apartment. It is 0.4 miles to and back! I haven't made up my mind if I will join yet or not because I am still not well enough to exercise like I was doing before I got sick. They do have a pool and water aerobics everyday and the people that worked there were the greatest! They were very concerned about my health and not just about getting my membership. The only set back is that is $10 more per month, and for one year. The other one was only first and last, then pay monthly. So I haven't decided for certain, but I am pretty certain:)

Tomorrow at 3 pm I will have my first one-on-one counseling session to help me quit smoking! At least that is a step in the right direction. I can't wait until I can get the Chantix. I have beentalking to a lot of people and they all say it worked for them or for someone they knew.
At least I know have hope of quitting someday soon:)

Good luck quitting smoking!! I know it's not the easiest obstacle to overcome but it sounds like you are approaching it the right way. And I am glad to hear you are on the mend. Keep taking small steps and you will be able to do more than you expect. Maybe the money saved from not buying cigs could cover the gym membership? emoticon

A nice walk to the gym and back. Awesome, but take care in your recovery, the body will tell you when you are ready for some real workouts. Give yourself time. Even with Chantix it is going to be a real challenge QUITTING the smokes.

Good for you. 4 miles round trip, mine is a little less maybe it's time for me to start walking. I love the pool in the summer. Sounds like you are making positive efforts. Good luck with the quitting, I hope this step helps. Great positive blog. emoticon

Girl, you are awesome! I'm such a big whiner when I'm sick. I haven't been out to walk or do much but garden a bit in last two weeks! I can't believe you went to the gym!!! WOW!

I'm also rooting for you on the smoking thing. My dad was a 2 pack a day smoker and he really had a hard time quitting in his 40's - but he eventually did it!

Good on you...tear off the band-aid on the smoking...quit and start working out...that;s what worked for me 3 years ago.

Good luck with the gym....a 4 mile walk will just be more cardio points for you!

You are taking many positive steps in the right direction. I quit smoking around 5 years ago. You will have so much more energy! All the best to you. You are making great choices. Can you try the gym for a week to make sure you like it?
