2/19/11- Frostbite 5-Miler: My hubby and I are planning on running this together. I generally don't enjoy running in the cold; so, it will be interesting to see how the elements are the morning of the race. We may want to invest in a pair of YakTrax. Though, hubby did very kindly get me running leggings, a medium-layer running jacket, and a heavy-layer running jacket for Christmas. I may be breaking them out for the race, if not for training runs.
5/1/11: Broad Street 10-Mile Run: This will be our first year running this event. Our furthest long-run has been just over 9 miles, and that was a couple of months ago. We will be gradually working on rebuilding our mileage after the 5-Miler. It's reported that the first 3 miles have some occasional hills. After that, it's 7 miles of gradual downhill. We've projected a 2-hour finish time for our corral assignment.
5/11- Race Against Melanoma 5K: This is an event we ran in last year. I had a good finish time, but a bad experience overall with how the event was organized. They stopped writing down finishers after 35 minutes, so my 37+ minute time wasn't listed on their web site. I'm hoping they make some changes this year; otherwise, we may skip this one.
6/11- Spring Into Summer 5K: This is a favorite of ours. We began our foray into running based on doing this as a 2-mile walk in 2008. Last year we participated in the YMCA's Run Series of which this race is a part.
7/11- MCAP Run for the Hill of It 5-Miler: Hubby and I did this race for the first time after we trained to increase our mileage to just over 5. We may or may not run this together. Running together would likely give me a faster finish time, but separately, he will likely finish faster.
8/11- Legs for Lindsey 5K: We've done this race twice before. Last year, my hubby ran it solo and I ran with my daughter. She took a medal in her 12 & under age group.
10/11- Kids First 5K: This was a first for us last year. It was a nice run through part of Fairmount Park in Phila., PA. My daughter and I ran this one together, while hubby ran solo. Again, she placed in her age group.
10/16/11- Atlantic City Half Marathon: Last year, hubby and I ran the 10K in Atlantic City and have decided to bump it up to the half marathon this year. Once we finish the 10-Mile run in May, we will likely gradually increase our mileage to prepare for this run.
10/11- Skeleton Skurry 5K: This is the second race in the YMCA series. We've done this race twice before. There is a killer hill that I nearly had to walk up the first time we ran it. Quite honestly, the speed I was jogging up it, I could have walked up it faster. This past year was still a challenge, but I didn't slow down nearly as much.
11/11-Schuylkill River Loop 8.48-Mile Run: Hubby and I ran this for the first time last year. It's a nice run around the Schuylkill River in Phila., PA. Since it's part of the way we drive from my M-I-L's to our house, it still boggles my mind that we ran it in 1 hr 33 min. This year we want to get in under 1 hr 30 min.
11/11- Gobble Wobble 5K: This is the final race in the YMCA series. It's held every year on Thanksgiving, hence the name. We ran it the first time last year. My daughter and I ran it together, hubby ran it solo, and my son walked it. He ended up taking 2nd place in his 18 & under age group for the series.
Eleven races total: six 5K's, two 5 miles, one 8.48 mile, one 10 mile, and one 13.1 mile.
There may be other events, but this at least gives us a starting point for training.
