Walking in the Rain

After work tonight, I walked in the cold drizzle, a first for me!!! I walked for forty minutes and other than needing a windshield wiper for my glasses, I did okay. I was bundled up like I was in Alaska or the Arctic. I really wanted to get my minutes in tonight!!
I attended a continuing education lecture this afternoon on Bariatric surgery and it was an eye opener. Of course, this surgeon was definitely there to drum up referrals, but his opinion was the ONLY way to lose weight once one has BMI of 35 was surgery, either lap band, sleeve, or gastric by-pass, which he mostly does lap band. He also mentioned the patients who do well are the ones who go on low fat, small portion and exercise after surgery. One must change their habits and follow instructions.
He is also involved with investigation procedures and his sponsor company fed us a delicious lunch of the best salad (spinach with fresh strawberries and raspberry vinaigrette), fresh veggie or potato soup, delightful ham, turkey, or roast beef sandwiches, dingdong cake and lemon icebox pie. I selected salad, veggie soup, ham (took the nasty cheese off) without condiments and a small slice of lemon pie and unsweetened ice tea. The good news is we are having left overs for lunch tomorrow!!!
At any rate, I see so many people on SP who are successful with weight loss without surgery and I definitely want to get my fitness and nutrition in order to avoid the knife! I am going to become my own best friend and cheerleader to encourage my new lifestyle.
