Fluid Retention

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Good morning all~
I really haven't had a whole lot to say these days. Things are going well, can't complain. Started back tracking my food, counting points (Weight Watchers). Just seems my body wont act right when it comes to that. If I miss days of taking my prescribed fluid pills (along with my blood pressure medicine), I retain all this fluid...so I don't know my accurate weight. Does this mean I'll have to take these stupid pills the rest of my life? Ghee whiz!

Anyway, after a restful day off, I'm heading back to work. Have a gr8 day!

Sparking is all about being healthy. If you need to take the pills to stay healthy, then that's what you should do. Don't let the scales discourage you! Just keep eating right and getting some exercise every day--building up as you get stronger--and you'll see results. Maybe, you'll be able to ditch the pills if your BP comes down, but please be safe and listen to the doctor!

My weight also fluctuates when it comes to my water pills. But I rather do that than to have my high blood pressure further damage my kidneys. Of course, talk with your doctor about other options. Good luck!!

I also have high blood pressure and take a fluid pill and a potassium pill. The answer to your question about a life time of taking the pills is, yes, if you want to take care of yourself and be healthy. My entire family on my father's side had high blood pressure, stopped taking their pills, and had to go on dialysis (washing of the blood in your system which takes 4 to 6 hours, 3 days a week). I promised myself I would take all of my pills forever. I also have the water retention when I do not take my pills and I swell, my left leg more than my right. I have two different doses of water pills, 20 & 40 mcg. When I am really swollen I take the 40.

So I know it may be a pain taking a lot of pills, but please continue doing as the doctor says. At your next appointment ask the doctor if there is something else you could do. I wish you luck. You are not alone in any of this. Keep looking up.

You could try over the counter water pills. They may not be as effective as prescription but, some work quite well. I use some OTC water pills during "that" time to make the bloating and associated discomfort go away...
