Get Your Measuring Tapes Girls!!

Monday, January 17, 2011

Break out the measuring tape!!

Look for 2 great articles"Waist-to-Hip Ratio Estimates Health Risk" by Fitness Jen Mueller and Nicole Nichols in Spark's Fitness Articles. and "Gallstones linked to "Gut" Circumference" by Dietitian Becky Hand in Spark's Nutrition News Flash!

According to the articles, where your body stores fat is a good indicator of your overall health. The size of your waistline is directly related to the overall health of your body. A waist circumference of 40 inches or more doubles the risk of gallstones.

The Waist-to-Hip article is very instructive on how to measure your waist and hips using a "Waist-to-Hip (WTH) ratio, which is a common method of fat distribution that can help you track your weight loss progress and serve as a warning to heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, diabetes and cancer.

Access weight around the abdominal region can also increase the pressure on the bladder causing urinary incontinence, a sudden urge to urinate especially when coughing, laughing or sneezing and in males erectile dysfunction symptoms.

My New Year's plan is to focus on reducing my waist this year!

My main focus is to change from the scale to the measuring tape. I feel that I will get more motivation as my waist reduces than the up and down numbers on the scale.

I am setting my goal to measure my waist, abdomen and hips on a weekly basis.

Wish me luck and help me stay motivated with reminders!!!

Love,
Vera

You know I started the measuring tape back in Nov because I wasn't seeing results on the scale. And the measuring tape show me results and keeps me motivated instead on thinking the scale is broke!

I find that keeping track of measurement changes is very encouraging when the scale is being stubborn!
