A Rough Day in the Life of a Butterfly

I am still working like crazy, but I wanted to stop by and send a few smiles with the Butterfly Saga.
Earlier this week, my dear friend who worked her last day with us today, let me know I was busted. She is the one who painted the portrait of Mona. She saw one of the butterflies in a jar at Kmart. She kept my secret, though.
Yesterday one of our grad students came in when Mona was "agitated." She picked up the jar and whispered, "shhhhhhhhh. shhhhhhhhh. shhhhhhhhh." Mona is voice and touch activated. When I spoke up, she got started again. The grad student gave me this ugly look and "calmed Mona" once more. She held the jar a good 12 minutes at least.
Also yesterday this one woman was really riding me hard about the butterfly being in that little jar. I had already told her that I let her out at the house. I told her again, and she asked how I catch her again. I told her that Mona comes right back to me. And she says, "Oh. Because you feed her? That must be what it is." Oh yes, I agreed. I also added that I have to be very careful not to turn the ceiling fans on when she is out of the jar.
Today, one of the men I work with idles into my office and sits a spell. Mona is fluttering around a little, but not terrible active. I happen to look at her and notice that she has broken. One wing is flying around up near the top of the jar, and the other wing is flapping on the bottom of the jar. I just knew I was busted. I casually reached over, picked up the jar, and held her affectionately in my lap until this guy left my office.
I taped her back together. She does not look as good as she did before, but she still fooled them the rest of the day.
I brought her home to let her out in the house for the weekend. Maybe I will feed her honey this weekend, instead of Karo syrup.
