101 things: day 12

Update: day 12

I started with # 74: Find out the total $ amount of our debt. It’s a scary-big number. Too scary to say out loud. But I’ve faced it, and I’m not backing down! ( I have to laugh, as I type this Lu is napping nearby with AOL Lullaby radio playing, and the lullaby of the moment? The Everly Brothers, All I Have to do is Dream!)

Which brings us to #52 & 53: Sell our house, buy our dream house. Okay, let’s be honest, buy my dream house. Hubs’ dream house would probably have a little less pomp and circumstance inside, and a lot more land outside.

Currenly, we live in a cute little brick house in a cute old neighborhood in the heart of downtown. Just blocks from a bread bakery, when we walk outside our front door it usually smells like toast. Our house was built in the 20’s, and it has all the character you might imagine. But…I’m kind of over it. The last straw? When we had to special order a front door, because ours was an irregular size in an irregular jam, and more than one contractor refused to take on the project of installing it. There is more to this whole house story, but I won’t bore you.

So, we have found a house with all the character of ours in a nice, new house package, but it’s just a scootch out of our price range. Don’t you love that word? Just a scootch. Anyway, before we can proceed to #52 & 53, we need to address #76: Eliminate $34,661 in debt. Now I know what you are thinking, and yes, I am darned ambitious and just a little bit crazy to boot. At this point, I can say nothing further, as Mr. Ollie has sworn me to secrecy. I will say, however, that my long term plan of renting out my beagle as a new, earth friendly excavator is looking promising.

Good luck with the debt thing! Also I agree your current house sounds awesome, but I can understand the maintenance headache an old house can be. Getting rid of debt is an AWESOME goal. :)

Just had to stop by & read your blog. I'm doing the 101 Thing too.

Your house sounds adorable! I love old houses like that. I once talked my husband into buying an old farm house simply because I loved the dental molding on the front door. LOL And as it turned out, we should have bulldozed the house and started over instead of gutting it & remodeling.

Good luck with your 101 things!
