How I am calculating how many calories I can have

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

When I first tried using the SP nutrition tracker, it told me I should consume I think about 1200 calories a day. To me, that is just not realistic!

Here's my theory:
I want to lose 2 pounds a week and to do that, I need to shave approx. 1,000 calories a day from what I have been doing. (3500 calories per pound x 2 pounds divided by 7 days).

I have been maintaining my weight for a few years, so that tells me that I have been consuming the right amount of calories for me to maintain. I estimate that I am used to eating about 3,000 calories a day, so I should now aim for 2,000 calories a day.

I see other people who say they only eat 1,000 calories a day and I just can't imagine it! I have done good these past 8-9 days on staying around 2,000 calories. It's just enough that I'm not totally dying of hunger. I hope to eventually get this lower, but for now, it's working for me.

Thanks to the nutrition tracker, I am also much more aware of how many calories are in things. A few days ago, I had a hard pretzel from a box and I estimated it to be about 40 calories. It was 100! Guess I better only eat 1 and not 3. emoticon

If that is working for you and you are seeing results that you want then that is great!! I had previously lost some weight and the program I did before started me out with higher calories and, as I lost weight, my body didn't need as many calories to feel full so they reduced the amount. It worked great for me!

That darn nutrition tracker sure has its way of ruining some things that we really do enjoy! At the same time though, it is very important to be aware of those things so we learn to eat them in moderation. That's the way I am looking at things, it's all in the moderation. I can still have all the things I enjoy but I need to learn to moderate them!

    Have an emoticon day!!
