31 Days - Give Yourself Credit! - December 11

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Spark tells us today to:

Practice saying, thinking and writing positive things about yourself. Acknowledge and take credit for the things you've done well, and recognize your abilities and talents. Keep a list to add to, think about, and read to yourself daily.

It is hard for many of us to take compliments from others; it is hard to see and acknowledge the positive, instead, I think, many of us dwell on the negative parts of us. But we have to, pure and simple. Because I strongly believe that the only way we are going to stay on this journey and be willing to exert the energy and effort to getting ourselves healthy is if we believe we are worth it. If we can't even ackknowledge our self worth to ourselves, never mind let someone from outside ourselves tell us we've done something well without that "aw shucks" feeling, how in the world are we going to feel we are worth it?

From the comments I've been getting from this blog, and from my own personal experience in this realm, I know that many people have stuff deep in their psyches that make them feel inadequate. Whether those feelings were driven into us by our parents or other life experiences, they, and the damage those feelings have done, have to be dealt with before we can ever stand up and scream out to the world: I MOST CERTAINLY AM WORTH IT AND WORTHY.

With this tip, Spark is giving us a way to try to reinforce the positive, to re-train us and our thinking about ourselves. At the very least, give it a try, especially if you have those feelings..

Sometimes less is more, so, to quote Forrest Gump, "that's all I'm going to say about that."

Have a Sparky day!

We are "wonderfully made" we just fail to keep that in mind.
What I'd like to know is why I am so accepting of others' faults and mistakes, and critical of my own.

My good friend said to me once (after I was complaining about myself for some reason) "Be nice to my friend."

    Stopped me short.

I've used the line several times, to friends of mine.

Good message. I always remember the phrase from a "Pretty Woman" when she says "The bad stuff is easier to believe."

I want the good stuff to be easier one day.......

Mornin' Tina! There's a phrase that I came across last year that smacked me upside the head, that I now keep on my Sparkpage:

"I choose to know the truth about myself no matter how beautiful it is."
    - UNKNOWN -

Like you, I believe that the key to productive and lasting change is learning to love yourself, and make that the cornerstone of everything else.

    Have a GREAT day, Beautiful!

Great UPLIFTING blog!! SO TRUE!!! I recently heard a speaker talk about how we have such negative self talk. We would never talk to our friends the way we talk to ourselves.

    Thanks for encouraging us!!!

I understand your point. There will be the occasionally negative thought, but it's when it becomes the main focus and you forget about the good stuff you fall into the "pit". Have a wonderful day!
