Long Run

Good Morning! So, I have been doing this Hal Higdon's half marathon training program for the past 5 weeks. I can't believe it's already been 5 weeks! Today is my long run day, and I have to run 8 miles. It's pretty cold outside, but I know if I run on the treadmill I'm going to get way overheated and pay too much attention to time and distance. On one hand I'm not looking forward to running outside only because I've never been a fan of cold weather (yet I live in Chicago)...I must be crazy. On the other hand, I got a 72 oz. camelbak vest that I'm anxious to try out. I know I'm not running a marathon but 8 miles is a good distance to go without water. I think I'm going to try out my new camelbak and hit the open road!!

Also, I'm super proud of myself and wanted to share it with you all. Last night my boyfriend and I went out to dinner to an Italian restaurant where they give you bread and oil, and loads of fattening sh*t on their food. I noticed this little print that said they can make accommodations for special dietary needs. WOOO HOOO. So instead of having something bad for me, I did a few things that made my meal enjoyable, taste DELICOUS, and make me feel GREAT! emoticon

First, I had NO bread and oil. Now this is big for me because I have never before gone into a restaurant and NOT eaten the bread. It's one of my favorite things! My boyfriend ate the entire basket, save two pieces, all by himself. emoticon Yes, I drooled a bit and had a hard time concentrating on conversation, but so what....I didn't eat any!

Second, I had them modify the garlic shrimp linquini that they make with garlic butter. I asked them to use whole wheat pasta, no butter, and very little olive oil. It was fantastic! I can tell he followed my wishes because it was really watery juice. I drank unsweetened iced tea with splenda, and waited until we got home to satisfy my sweet tooth.

When I got home, I took one of my eating clean banana muffins, split it in half, and put some fresh strawberries, banana, and kiwi on it. I then put on a dollop of Fage 0% yogurt, and a drizzle of sugar-free imitation honey. It probably doesn't sound too appetizing to you all, but it was good to me and certainly satisfied my sweet tooth while allowing me to continue to eat clean!!

Sounds like you have it all planned out. I should try my Camelback sometime too, the last time I did though the water tasted like plastic. Boo. I have a fuel / water belt that I use .... it carries 16 ounces of water. Two pockets of 8 ounces.

Normally I run with a jogging stroller, but here in MN it is waaay to cold outside as well.

I agree that it is more productive to run outside then inside.
