Overboard with the whole "Setting Time Aside for Myself"

Saturday, January 08, 2011

Ok, so I've been on a mission. A mission to really dig down deep and get to the bottom of my soul. I wanted to make serious improvements for the long-term as opposed to the short-term. This takes real commitment, but I think I've realized....can I be overcommitted? First, I go to church, then I realized I need more. My brother is an addict and I realized I need the Nar Anon program. So, now I have church and the Nar Anon program. Then I decide I really need to get to the bottom of this binge eating. So, then I have church, Nar Anon, and then my binge eating disorder specialist (she's fabulous, by the way). Then, I decide I really want to connect more with God. I'm still missing that in my life. So, now I have church, Nar Anon, BED therapist, reading the bible and praying 5 days a week. Then, I decide I miss reading, maybe I can use a self-help book along my journey. Now, we're at church, Nar Anon, BED therapist, bible readings and prayers, and now reading a self-help book at least 10 minutes 5 days a week. I really could go on...cardio, drinking water, my physical therapy after I hurt my back, strength training, blogging....
Holy moly....what have I done??? LMAO!

Oh how I feel ya! Sometimes it seems like the more I improve, the more I just end up dumping on myself and then I forget to enjoy the simple things in life...like sleeping in or sitting in my PJ's all day!

At least you are thinking about it so that you can start to possibly remove some of these things you are putting on yourself. :-)

I think that changing things up is important.. I find getting involved in meetings and classes etc is a great way to jump-start your attitude.. it keeps things interesting so you don't get stuck in a rut!

Don't burn out. Make sure you know which are the most important to you right now so that if you must trim back on activities, you can keep the ones that you MUST keep doing (for whatever reasons you decided they were the most important.)

I think it's admirable though that you're doing so much to improve yourself. Loving yourself is the most awesome thing in the world and I hope that you continue on your path with joy and success!
