Halfway out of the dark, or Days are getting lighter and so am I!

Friday, January 07, 2011

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! For me, December was a little crazy but I managed to keep up with tracking food and exercise. My excess Christmas calories for the week (using the calorie difference report) totalled 1001. I was actually surprised that it was not more, but I guess getting out to skate and cross-country ski helped reduce the impact of overeating at the holidays, where food is such a big part of the celebration.

Solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah, Diwali, etc celebrate making it through the darkest part of the year. I rejoice that the days are getting lighter, and so am I! Best holiday present ever? I FINALLY reached my first goal, which was to lose my first 15 pounds (6.8kg), then work on losing another 10-15 (5-7kg) to get to the middle of my weight range. I have to say that seeing 137 lbs (62kg) on my weekly weigh-in this morning really made my day!

Now if I can just shake this nasty cold that has managed to catch me, I will be in even better spirits. As soon as I am feeling well enough, I'll get back to exercising. Right now I'm eating lots of soup, drinking pots of herbal tea, and resting. But I thought I write a quick blog entry to share the news of actually reaching a goal I set in April. It took almost 11 months, but I finally did it and am well out of the officially overweight category. Now onward to accomplish the last part of my goal to get to a fit shape and a reasonably slim weight for my age and height.
