Evening News, Teacher's Photo, Arrested!

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Guys! last night I was falling asleep while watching the 11pm news. Then I see a photo of my son's former bible study leader, arrested last night for child molestation. Can we say, no longer sleepy, heart pounding, feeling like a possible heart attack? Not a good way to get ready to sleep. (FYI: another night of 4-5 hours sleep.)

Since we have dish network, I was able to back up and pause. My son watched the story and said, "Mom, he wouldn't do that". Son was adamant, HE WOULD NOT DO THAT! (He was a leader for three years).

This morning, I called and talked with the youth director who told me the real story, not the sensationalized news report. He was accused over a year ago, and investigated. He was not arrested last night like the news media reported. At some point he was told to "turn himself in," OR be arrested. He turned himself.

Back when accused, he was immediately taken out of any leadership role. The youth director gave the investigator the names of the boys who had been closest to him, and they were interviewed, almost a year ago.
Before my son spent time with the accused, I talked with him and found he was from an abusive home. He has done well for himself, good job, a home, and a desire for kids not to go thru what he went thru. In fact, as far as I understood, he was raising his step/half brothers to get them out of the situation. And these are the children who accused him, not anyone from the bible study group.

The press were given information when it was determined that they were going to "break" the story. While I didn't see the info, I was told by the youth director they twisted it all around. And I must agree, because after listening, I was sure that the man was arrested last night, that's what was reported, so I believed them. Humfph, it makes me wonder about other reported stories.

Anyway if you do, please pray with me, I am concerned about his reputation and any fallout from this "breaking story". I think it has the possibility of doing much damage.

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

Since I don't have divine vision, if you are like me, there are times I can't see this. This is one of those times.

I learned long ago NOT to trust the TV OR the Newspaper for the Truth. I will be praying for your friend.
emoticon Please let him know we are praying and keep us informed, if you can, on how he is doing.

Amazing how the news edits their stories to make them seem very different...

I know a young man going through something like this. Some girls accused him of some things and hes now in jail serving a sentence. He could barely hit on a girl to ask them out much less do what he was accused of (in a movie theater with about 10 other youths from the youth group, at that). He will be in my thoughts and prayers. It is so difficult to see people go through this when wrongly accused. One of the girls that accused this guy just wants it dropped and put behind her, but the others refuse to. It is sad.
