2011 - new year, new me?

Tuesday, January 04, 2011

I'm not feeling well. I had surgery done on New Year's eve and had to stay in hospital for 2 days :( Well at least now I am home and my mum is looking after me. It would have been nice to not spend New Years in hospital but when you get an appointment from the NHS, you take it! I'd rather have the surgery now than wait for another slot to have it. I know that the NHS isn't that popular with many ppl, but I found everyone great and don't believe the standard of care could have been any better. I doubt going private would have been a better choice!

These last few months have been manic and gone so quickly! I decided that I wanted to do something different and not get stuck in admin so I gave up my job so that I could volunteer at a local primary school to see if working with children suits me and gain some relevant experience. My current future career goal is to become an educational psychologist and I have all the requirements to do the 3 year course in it apart from one, which is that I need 1 year experience minimum working with children. Because I can't get paid work with children yet, I decided to move out of London and go back to my parents for a few months to save money! Needless to say, I have been quite busy and have to admit that losing weight has been put on a back burner. On the bright side, I haven't put on weight! Once I'm all healed up and more mobile, I will get fit again and start losing my excess weight. I weighed myself recently and am about 78.5 kgs (about 172 pounds). My ideal weight would be between 140-147 lbs but losing 15-20lbs would be great and be enough I believe. Although I can't do much exercise at the moment, I am eating healthy (proper meals, lots of fruit and veg, no snacking, and not eating 'bad' stuff like chocolate). I will keep on eating well and start moving more when I can. I plan on tracking my calories and will start doing weekly updates on my progress.

It is amazing you have the courage to start out on a new career path. Very inspirational. I plan on doing the same thing this summer and am nervous, but very excited about it.
