Okay, so here’s the long awaited blog...
I started on SparkPeople four years ago in 2007, weighing about 200 lbs with a goal to get down to 145 lbs (what would put me in a “normal” BMI range). I had lost around 40 lbs by summer 2008, just shy of my goal weight. I was happy with that. Heck, I was over the moon! I had done it!
Then, I got complacent, and lazy. And there were some issues in my marriage at the same time too. Hubby and I worked through our differences and things got better, emotionally. But in our difficult times I had gone to food for emotional support, as well as eating to fill the lonely/bored times. After our problems were worked out, I didn’t work to lose any weight, since I was spending any extra time I had with Hubby, including extra date nights (meaning dinners out and treats), as well as Hubby vowing that he loved me just the way I was, so I didn’t really see a need to lose weight.
Then, it hit me a few weeks ago; I weighed myself and I weighed more than I could believe!!! I weighed in at 220 lbs. I knew this was the time for a change. So I decided to get together with my friend TAMMERIAN and start a new team; being a team leader had helped me achieve my goals in the past, so I figured this would be a good place to start.
So, TAMMERIAN and I have started SLEEK GEEKS ( www.sparkpeople.com/mysp
) as a way to find like-minded people who want to lose weight and get healthier (hopefully re-recruit some of our friends who have been on SparkPeople before), and a way to keep myself better accountable.
My starting goal will be to get down to 165 lbs, but I hope to eventually reach my initial SparkPeople goal of 145 lbs.
I’m going to start slowly, working to regain consistency, because I know those that start too fast burn out quickly and lose momentum. I’m going to start by working to reduce my portions and the junk that I put in my mouth while increasing my activity level (which should be easy, since right now, my activity level is next to nothing...).
I’ll also work to track my food daily, to help me see where my problems are, see if it’s specific days, or specific meals that are tripping me up. I’ll also work to add foods to my Spark database that aren’t there, and not just estimate based on similar foods that are there.
I’m also going to set rewards for myself for when I reach and maintain goals... I’m not sure what they will be yet, but I will make sure that they aren’t food-based rewards (cuz that’s just silly!); probably things like manicures, a haircut, different pampering things that I never let myself have, because they’re too expensive or I feel that I don’t really need them. I often forget that my mental health is worth it too, not just my physical and financial health. It’s all one, I just need to realise and remind myself of that constantly.
I will do it this time!!!
