Milestone Coming Up

I'm about to hit 10,000 points on Spark People. I'd like to say that in the past year or so that I've been on the Web site, I've lost lots of weight, but it's not so. I lost some, gained it back. But I've been soaking up the message and the attitude and they have led me to embrace running as a hobby.

I started running last March, unable to run a solid minute. Then the rains came. Then the heat wave came. It was September before I consistently ran. But I never entirely gave up. So when I started again to run, I could run five minutes.

At Halloween, 2010, I ran my first solid mile. It took me over 20 minutes of running - I'm a Slow Fat Runner - but I did it.

How I use SP has changed as my attitude has changed. At first, I read everything I could, then I tracked my food religiously, then I burned out on it all. And now i track my mileage and I'm happy to do it. I really like running. I really hate calorie counting. My use of SP now reflects that. I'm still tracking my food, but less diligently. I don't miss an entry of miles run, though.

So thanks, SP. I am in a better place and I wouldn't be there without you. I look forward to another year of tracking my goals and spreading the Spark!

    You know its the little things that build up to the big things. It must have felt so good when you kept increasing your time. Good for you! I remember when I could hardly get through five minutes on the elliptical. This is a process. Becoming healthy and fit. You are doing great! Keep it up. 8-)
