I'm back...

Happy New Year Spark Buddies. I'm back in front of my computer again after a week out of town. Back to sparking again after a half-hearted month with very little food tracking..., back to an everyday normal, non-special event life, goals and looking to the future, and most of all back to my healthy lifestyle.

I realized how fragile "my healthy lifestyle" was on my trip. I had held it together pretty well thru the holidays, had a few black-out meals, but all in all I kept exercising and drinking water and eating fresh fruit and vegies. On Christmas nite my DH and I got on a train in San Jose Ca and rode it for 19 hours to Portland Or. I packed healthy snacks-and a lot of chocolate, a bag of cookies and a container of nuts as well as water bottles. We ate the cookies and chocolate before we got to Portland. Had a healthy oatmeal breakfast in the dining car, thankfully since it was the last healthy meal I ate for a week. I would like to blame my choices on the cold weather-it was never over 45 and for me that's pretty chilly-and the fact that we stayed with family who weren't into the healthy food thing, but we also ate out a lot and I made choices, hash browns instead of fruit, one morning I had french toast made out of a cinnamon roll with caramel sauce and whipped cream, if you can imagine, chicken fried steak, biscuits and fried chicken, I was Alice in saturated fat land. And I knew what I was doing, and just kept doing it. And as has already been noted by other friends on this site, I felt bloated and lethargic.

I was only gone a week, I knew there was a time limit how long that party was going to last. I guess the thing that surprised me so much was how willing I was to throw all my good habits away and live and eat on fantasy island.

Aside from the food fiascos-all my doing, I accept complete responsibilty for my choices, we had a fantastic trip. The kids loved their sock monkeys, I did my first repairs not two hours after I gave my nephew his. He twirlled the monkey by his arm like it was a lasso. Little boys amaze me in how differently they play than girls. On the train ride up to Portland, we saw the sun come up as we traveled thru a forest that was covered in fresh, thick snow. I felt like I was on the "winter wonderland ride" at Disneyland, it was magical. We met new relatives who had joined our family since our last visit 6 years ago, 2 new great-neices and and a new neice in law. We spent a morning at Powell's which is one of the world's great bookstores with my brother and sister-in-law, and afterward had a wonderful lunch at Jake's, a beautiful restaurant in an old 1900's restored hotel. I did yoga with my little 7 year old great neice, and really got to spend some wonderful family time with our nephews who were little boys when I joined the family and now have families of their own. Our daughter was there and we all got to hang out together. We celebrated a birthday dinner at Montage, a New Orleans style restaurant, funky, fun and fantastic food. We spent New Years Eve on the train and celebrated in our usual fashion, falling asleep by 10pm.

It was raining when we got back home, rained the entire time on our trip-when it wasn't snowing. I have a whole new appreciation for those of you who live in climates where it's cold. God bless you! You are stronger than I am. I don't like being out in cold weather, much prefer a book, a nap, a blankie.

The sun is supposed to shine tomorrow, I'm hitting the streets again. signed up for the 28 day boot camp challange with my buddy Christi cause I'm feeling like I need a little more structure right now. I'm optimistic that 2011 is going to be a wonderful year. I am going to find a job that I love, that pays me an adequate compensation and appreciates my contributions. My sister and I are going to reach some resovle in our differences. My health and my family's health will continue to be excellent and I am going to lose the last 10 pounds!

All in all this is going to be a year to celebrate!

I am so glad that you are back and here to keep me straight. I hav missed you. I know what you mean about the blankie, but I have resolved to put mine away and cover myself with a blanket of exercise.

I am hoping this year will be the one that everything for you turns out just as you need and want it. Good luck with the job. There is one out there for you. You just haven't met yet! 2011 is going to be the year to move mountains. emoticon emoticon

I'm glad you are back and had a good trip. I think a lot of people have food issues over the holidays. It's so hard to make good choices when we are faced with yummy choices. Jump right back on the wagon and you will be fine! At WW, they told us the average person gains 11 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Years. Yikes . . .

I am so glad you are back. I hope your week didn't seem as fast as it seemed on this end. I had to laugh about the sock monkey becoming a lasso. Boys will be boys I guess.

Isn't it funny how bloated and miserable we now feel after a week like that. I did so good yesterday and was feeling a little more normal. I didn't do bad today, but not great either, and I feel more bloated. I am now wondering, was I going thru life feeling that way.

I too, can not believe how easy it is to throw away the good lifestyle. It's like you look at that mound of fat and for that instant think it will be worth anything we have to go through. Then as soon as it sinks deep within us we know it wasn't worth it. I have found that this will be a life time struggle, but one worth shooting for.

    Welcome back.

And I will celebrate with you! Sign me up.

Your vacation sounded wonderful. Good times. Lucky girl.

I don't understand why it is so easy to throw away our lifestyle change when we are feeling so good, and getting compliments, and life just kinda glows. Would understanding make a difference? I'd like to think it would, but it probably wouldn't. emoticon

Looking forward to Boot Camp 2011. Yes, I say that truthfully. I've spent the day on Spark, reading great motivational articles, visiting awesome spark pages, and I even managed to hop on the old treadmill for a quick 15 minutes. Poor thing was in shock.

    Let's take control! Again! emoticon

Glad you had a wonderful trip and a great holiday! I've been on that Fantasy Island along with you and you're right. It is so amazing how those old habits take hold and we throw caution to the wind. I guess it's good to be rebellious and get it out of our system....just can't make it a lifestyle.

I'm glad you are back and am impressed with you & Christi as you take back are both Rock Stars!

Wishing you a fabulous year....let's keep this momentum going!
