Yikes! Bad news from a Dexa scan!

Thursday, December 30, 2010

Oooops, I got a real wake-up call on Day 54. I'm in the high-risk category for osteoporosis because of my family background, physical build, genetic history, and so on. I had a Dexa Scan two years ago to establish a base line and learned then that I had osteopenia, the precursor for osteoporosis. Well, I thought I was doing pretty well working on that, by doing some exercise and taking a supplement of calcium and Vitamin D. Unfortunately I just got the results of my new Dexa scan---4% decrease in bone mass in my spine. So..... BACK ON THE WAGON IN A BIG WAY!!! My Bell's Palsy is mostly resolved so there is no longer any real reason to moderate my exercise. Most important? Strength training!!!! Thank you, modern technology, for the wake-up call, and thank you, Spark People, for keeping me on track! I'm back to the gym TODAY!

I was in the same boat but started Boniva two years ago. This year it showed I had gained back some of my lost bone mass. Good Luck!
