New Year is fast approaching...

Thursday, December 30, 2010

It's the time of New Year resolutions and vows to get healthier, lose weight and be a better person. I am having a great end to 2010 and as I approach the new year, my resolutions are not just for 2011 but for my life.

I've been heavy since puberty with this last year being a crowing achievement of breaking the 300 pound barrier...what a sad accomplishment at the age of 55. So before my 56th birthday in November 2011, I hope to be well on my way to a healthier weight.

2010 was a tough year for me, had just moved away from family and friends to a city where my husband and I knew no one. Everything seemed hard to do last year, but in the late summer and fall, with the help of SPARK and other tools I was able to lose 40 pounds and even in the two months I've been offline from SPARK, I maintained that loss and was pleasantly surprised to see the scale even lower after returning from a Christmas trip. What a rush!

It really is all about choices and they are mine to make. I can choose to over indulge in the things that are not good for me or I can choose those things that will improve and prolong my life so I can enjoy all those rewards of the second half of life, hopefully grandkids, retirement and just being with my delightful husband.

So my new year's resolution is to keep doing what I had done to lose the weight and take off more pounds and ramp up my activity levels because it's the only way to do it. No magic pill or drink or cookie is going to help me learn to eat right and take care of myself. It's all up to me and for a change, I'm up for the challenge.

I sure hope everyone is having a great holiday and feeling positive about what 2011 will bring for each and everyone of us who is working toward a healthier lifestyle!

Hugs to all and Happy New Year! emoticon
