Weight Question

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Well, I got majorly waylaid last week with something like the flu. I had ZERO appetite (imagine that!) for several days. While I am feeling all better, I am just tired. I always want to sleep.

I don't feel depressed. Just tired, in a weird way. While my strength seems to have mostly returned, walking for more than 20 mins. wears me out.

I have also lost weight.

I have a fear that all the weight I lost was in muscle :(

It takes so much for me to build muscle, I'd hate to think that I lost it so quickly! I don't have calipers or a way of measuring though.

I hope to get my OOMPH back soon. The only thing I can bring myself to do these days is to try to walk throughout the day and incorporate some more walking in so that I keep the blood flowing and metabolism going. I really don't feel like strength training, which I probably need. Just doesn't fit with how I feel.

I don't really think that I got dehydrated (I mean I did the first day) because I'm drinking plenty.

I'm actually alarmed at all my SparkFriends claiming to drink a gallon OR MORE! each day! Drinking too much taxes your system and can be bad. It's hard for me to believe our bodies were designed for that much water intake. That said, getting up to 80 oz or so can't be a bad thing.

I really haven't felt that I have the oomph to do ST and I haven't built it into my schedule because I keep sleeping in. I hope to get on track beginning on Friday, my day off. I have to do lots of cooking, but surely I can begin with a 15-min workout!

Thanks for the support and motivation, friends!

Usually when you are sick you lose a lot of fluids and waste so you'll lose weight that will usually pop back up over a week or so. Do lots of strength training and your muscles will be fine!

    Good luck!

Since it was only last week that you were sick, don't try and push yourself too hard! Between the dehydration and probable lack of appetite you had, it makes perfect sense that you would have lost weight following an illness!

Let yourself get fully better....if you try and push TOO hard, you're going to continue to feel ill, and it will take longer to get better! I do exactly what you are saying...I will do kind of low-key workouts, like some walking, for awhile after an illness until I feel myself perk back up again. But, I wouldn't sweat it too much...there have been sicknesses going around that are taking people FOREVER to fully kick!

Just continue to make sure you eat well, you need it for the energy. Also make sure to SUPER hydrate yourself...make sure you're drinking at least your 8 glasses of water a day! It's going to help flush that illness out! It's frustrating to want to return to working out when you have been sick, but this is also an important time to take care of your health!

I hope you feel better SOON!!!
