Visit to the kidney doctor.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Well just got back from the kidney doctor and because of the bout of kidney stones that I had earlier this year, I have been given guide lines to follow.

I have a list of foods that I should steer clear off.

Restrict my caffeine intake. If I choose to have a coffee etc. it has to be small and drink an additional 10 ozs of water to compensate.

Drink 3-4 liters of water per day.

I have to return to the doctor in six months. I will have to do a 24 hour collection of urine, have some blood work done before I go to that appointment, and at that time, in his office, I will have an ultra sound. Hope that I can stick with the huge water intake and of course the change of diet!

I have had kidney stones, but luckily I passed them. It was a very painful experience. I have 12 to 13 glasses of water a day. You will soon get used to it. Hope you manage to pass them without any need for surgery or laser treatment. I have a lemon and lime in hot water every morning with a spoonful of honey. i get unwaxed lemons and when I have squeezed them I pop the skins into a glass and keep topping it up with water all day. It gives a refreshing lemon and lime taste without too much acid.

Kidney stones are very painful and can lead to renal failure so it is important that you follow the diet and get the water in.

Please try your hardest to do as the doc says! I am a long-time diabetic and had to go through dialysis, kidney transplant. Trust me it is no fun.
I'm not saying that it will happen to you, but diabetes effect your kidney a lot!
