the "chili" story

This is just one of those things, I thought it was good story, and so typical of men. For the past 24 years, ever since my husband and I married, he has eaten my homemade chili under protest. I love chili and I think I make darn good chili, but my dh always made a face and claimed to rather eat canned Hormel chili, ugh! So I finally called his bluff. Last Saturday I planned to make chili, I told dh not to worry I would have a can of Hormel for him. So Saturday morning I gather my chili making stuff, and a can of Hormel, and put everything on the kitchen counter. Hubby was doing yard work and I started saute'ing onions and garlic. Hubby comes through the kitchen and says, "it sure does smell good in here". I told him it was the chili but not to worry his can of chili was ready to heat up. A little while later he looks in the pan and remarks that is sure does look and smell good. A little while later, "is that what ya'll are eating?", Me, "yes, that's the chili, don't worry, I have your Hormel." Him, "I think I would like to eat what you're making." And TAKES THE HORMEL AND PUTS IT IN THE PANTRY!!!!
He eats the same chili he has been turning his nose up at for 24 years and thinks it's wonderful!
Is that a man for you or what? It's like he never tasted it before.
In case you wonder, I use the same recipe my mother always used, the one on the Mexcene Chili Powder jar. I change it up a little, but basically it's the same. DH does not like real spicy food so I make it mild and leave the Tabasco on the table so people can add heat if they want it. Why did it take 24 years for him to realize my chili is actually better than canned? Nothing changed, it was all the same stuff we have had before.
Well, that's my story.
