Lots of birthday goodies!

Monday, December 06, 2010

So, it's official...I hit the big 44 yesterday! It's kinda funny, cause several of my friends had double digit birthdays this year - two of them turned 55 and one turned 88. Strange, huh?

Anyhoo, I got some really nice things for my birthday. My parents and my brother chipped in and got me a Garmin GPS for my car! This is a truly great gift, as I am very geographically challenged!! Plus, it has Bluetooth, so now I can talk on the phone without having to wear my little's so much easier to hear!

On Friday, one of my double digit friends took me out for lunch. We stopped at Goodwill before lunch to drop off some items and to do a little clothes shopping. I'm trying to find cheaper clothing sources so that I can remain decently clothed while losing inches without going bankrupt. I found a really nice pair of jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt. (I've found that my arms can get pretty cold when walking outside in colder temps. I get too warm in a sweatshirt, so I'm looking for long-sleeved t-shirts.) When we got to the register, she insisted on paying for my items also. What a great friend!

On Saturday, my parents and my brother took me to Carino's for lunch. Yummmmy Italian food - angel hair pasta with chicken, artichokes, capers, tomatoes, black olives and parmesan cheese! So good and it fits in my food budget for the day - especially after walking and yoga class that morning.

Yesterday, my brother and I went to Copeland's for lunch. That's a New Orleans style restaurant, for those who don't know. I had a coupon for a free dessert with purchase of an entree. I decided I was gonna have some really good dessert on my birthday and Copeland's has this amazing cheesecake and a selection of toppings to go on the cheesecake.

I had a large salad as my entree, then came the pièce de résistance...chocolate cheesecake with chocolate decadence topping! Absolutely to die for!! The chocolate decadence topping consists of milk chocolate ganache and dark chocolate ganache...both are drizzled over the cheesecake, plus there is a pool of each of them on the plate. I ate about 5 bites of it, then I let my brother finish it off. I have no idea how many calories it was, but it was well worth every one of them. It probably took care of my chocolate and dessert urges for the next month!

Well, maybe not...there is still one more birthday event planned. One of my teammates at work normally works from a remote location. She will be in town next week and we will all go out to lunch for my birthday. There is a local restaurant here called Hunka Pie and I bet you can imagine what they specialize got it, pie! They have some sandwiches that sound absolutely amazing and they also have soups and savory pies. I can almost guarantee that I will also have dessert that day...the strawberry cream cheese pie sounds pretty tempting!

Just to top things off, I got many, many happy birthday wishes and goodies from my SP friends and my FB friends! Wow, what a great birthday this year!!

Sorry this blog is long, but I have some really awesome friends and family and I just wanted to share my happiness that they are in my life! emoticon
