December

Thursday, December 02, 2010

Wow, I can't believe it is December already! This has been one fast moving year. And a year full of changes! I have definately been blessed this year for sure! So looking forward to a great year in 2011 too! I can't remember the last time I have ever said that. Usually my matra for the new year is it can't be much worse.

I haven't blogged for some time, I'm sorry. I've just gotten busy doing stuff and forget to do it. One thing I wanted to share that I think you all will appreciate is a few weeks ago we went to a Christmas festival. They had a new thing this year with various cooked goodies in one room for sale. Like a giant bake sale actually. We walked all through the room. On every table were samples of this and that. I honestly wasn't tempted by any of it. But we came up on one table and we were walking by and the lady said, " you all are skinny, you can have a bite"! My response was I am skinny because I don't have bites!!! NO ONE has ever said that to me before. I thought that was pretty cool!!!

Then this weekend we were at Fredricksburg. A quaint texas town with great shops. It was packed. But there was one shop basically of different dips, sauces, and other goodies. There were samples of everything there with baskets of triskets all around for the samples. I admit I did try a few here and there. But there was a customer in there that I had to watch. She took a large handful of triskets and proceeded to have a sample of every single item in the store. She did NOT skip one at all. I don't mean to be mean, that isn't why I'm saying this. It just really hit home with me. That was me before. Free food, let's eat lunch! I felt bad for her but was so intrigued at the same time. Let me clarify too, there weren't just 5 samples laying around the store. There were hundreds! I wish her well and hope someday she finds health!!

A year ago I would have been a sampling fool at both these places and then some more! Never thinking 2 thoughts about what I was doing to myself. I am so blessed and thankful that during this year I have come to find health! To realize that life is better now and that I didn't have to sacrifice anything to enjoy life! In fact life is much better with out fat, cheese, grease ect. At least my stomach definately thinks so!! Life is better now that I can walk more then a block with out hurting!!! Life is deinatley better with out smoking...:) Life is just BETTER!! Don't you wish you could package heathiness in box and give it away for Christmas?? I hear people say all the time that they have this ailment, or that and they feel horrible. Well I didn't think changing my lifestyle would help me either, but you know what...it has. I know it would help other's too! I just wish they would know this too! Well you all have a great day!!

Congratulations on a year of health with a bonus of skinnyness! I was in Fredericksburg too! I went the weekend before thanksgiving. Just a few days before my mom died. There were so many things my mom didn't do because she worked herself to death and didn't take care of her health.

Great blog, Terri. Thank you for writing it. It is so wonderful to be feeling better and yes, although I haven't learned it completely yet, it's so good to even know that someday soon, a bit of this or a bit of that will be totally enjoyable and then ... that will be enough.

Great blog Terri! Congrats on changing your life this year. You really have adopted a healthy lifestyle. When there is something extra special you really want to try you can and should so you don't feel too deprived. But otherwise, you don't want to eat just anything even if it's free (because it's not free to your body). Thanks for this team and your efforts!!

emoticon job on not trying those samples! I think it's great that we can walk by them and not be tempted. Took a while but I got there as well.

It is great to find health...it was within us all along, wasn't it? We just had to uncover it.

Those places that give out tons of samples are a dying breed, I think because of the kind of patron you describe. Harry and David is headquartered in our area and before the moved to this fancy-schmancy new building they used to give out samples of EVERYTHING, and I mean everything. Peanut butter-filled pretzels, 500 kinds of jellybeans, candy galore, cheese, sausage, fruit, you name it. Needless to say, that used to be one of my favorite places because you could pig out for free. They sure stopped that - now you are lucky if there are 2-3 things to try. Chiselers, LOL. I don't go in there anymore anyway.
