This week's gonna be better

Monday, November 29, 2010

Had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with my family and friends! I'm so blessed and thankful for such a loving group of folks to celebrate with. Of course, I overdid it with the food even though I didn't do as badly as previous years.

My activity wasn't as intense because I slightly injured my back last Sunday, so I just moved around as much as possible last week trying not to make things worse. By the end of the week I was feeling a lot better and was able to run with the 10K training group on Saturday. The 10K is not until March, but a group from the community began training 2 weeks ago and we meet every Sat. to run. Man, was it cold - 24 degrees! We're building up a little each week, and this week was only 2 miles. I just wasn't feeling it and it was not a good outing for me. That may be because I swam laps for a half hour sort of late on Friday afternoon.

Note: I have to pant and catch my breath after about 2 pool lengths (sometimes after just 1!) so it wasn't like I was doing any Darra Torres/Michael Phelps kind of laps!

Anyway, I resolve to stick with it all this week. I'm going to track every bite of food I put in my mouth, and am going to exercise according to the training schedule the coach developed. AND, I believe that with structure and discipline I will begin seeing improvement in my overall fitness and confidence levels. PLUS, I'm going to try and remember that some days are just going to suck, I may not feel my best, or the weather may be horrible. I'm just going to accept it, get on with the task at hand, and be thankful that the bad day is over and hope for the next one to be good!

Great attitude. I know how hard things get when you get hurt and have to work through it.
