I'm off the fence: 1/2 marathon

So for the past few weeks I have been toying with the idea of signing up to walk a 1/2 marathon in March. No more toying... I'm going to do it. The basic requirement is to maintain or exceed 4.0 mph for walkers. I can do that - just have to get into the habit of walking longer distances in a single stretch.
I found a friend who is willing & able to walk with me - so we're going to start doing long distance walks this coming Sunday. I could do it on my own - but I'd prefer company!
The plan is to walk 2-3 miles twice during the week, with a long walk on Sundays. The 1/2 Marathon is 3-20-11 in Atlanta. If we start next Sunday at 6.5 miles and increase by 5% each week, we should be ready!
I still want to work on running - so that leaves me 3 days for running and one rest day.
