Finding Balance and Meeting my own goals

Monday, November 15, 2010

It's been a tough few months. I haven't been able to pay attention to my health the way I'd like. I haven't lost any weight but I haven't gained any either. Frankly, maintaining, was a problem in the past, so I am happy with maintaining, especially given my stressful work weeks (of 85+ hours). But now, that I have time, I need to turn it up a notch, make new workout plans, and get closer to my goal line.

I'm still formulating my goals but I've learned a few things on the journey ....

1) The victory is won everyday ... not at the end. Celebrate your small success they do lead to larger ones. Take time to be happy and enjoy this journey. I'll ALWAYS be on it so I better enjoy the ride!

2) Strength Train. WOW. I just didn't know this. How could I be to misinformed? I always thought cardio first (lose 50 lbs) then strenth train. But I realize, this is how I got into this mess. Everyone that has yo-yo'd has higher body fat percentages because the body losses muscle first in dieting. I never use to strength train but my body changes so much faster when I do. Even though the numbers on the scale don't move as quickly this way the button holes on the belt do!

3) Calorie reduction. Reduce calorie intake.

4) Burn more calories. Use more interval training.

There is so much more I've learned ... but this is what I am taking with me into this next phase of getting closer to the goal line.

I'm so glad to see that you are back! Congratulations on not gaining! That's an enormous accomplishment! I need to remind myself of those daily accomplishments!

Finding balance is key. Working 85+ a week is working two full time jobs plus! It's amazing that you could find any time for anything other than sleep with your schedule!

Making yourself your #1 priority is a good place to start. I hope you're able to find the balance between work and taking good care of yourself. Without good health, everything suffers.

Here's to you and a new beginning!

Thanks for the advice. Your clearly dedicated and a hard worker. May I suggest that relaxing might be important too.
    All the best.
