26.2 Mile Training Run - Can I do this...can I really???

Well, I haven't blogged in so long I forgot how to. I thought I'd start my blogging goal with this title. Yep, I will be doing a 26.2 mile marathon training run tomorrow and I'm a bit nervous about it. You see, I have not run a marathon since April, 2005 and I don't know if my body 5 years later will tolerate this long run. Fortunately, I've been training with the Dallas Jeff Galloway group since June of this year and I'm hoping with this training that I will be able to finish this training run strong and with perserverance to go on to run the big race in Dec. If I do I know I'll be able to do really well at the actual RACE, the Dallas White Rock marathon in just 22 days on Dec. 5th. My first marathon was not so much a good experience for me, well the 2nd half wasn't and I ended the race not feeling well but I do have to say that I finished, which was my goal. This next marathon, I'd like to have a better time, but even if I don't, I'm okay with it as long as I finish like I said earlier, "strong and with perserverance".

I leave with one of my Galloway running buddies whom I've run several long runs with this afternoon for Ft. Worth. If anything, this will be a fun experience for me. This will be the first time in a "running" event (done this for a triathlon), where I travel to another town, stay in a hotel and run the race the next day. We're calling this a "fun" adventure. We'll drive to Ft. Worth, check into our hotel, go pick up our packets and then we have dinner reservations at none other than an Italian restaurant (pasta...carbs...protein) Yum!!! We are meeting 3 other fellow Galloway runners in FW at the restaurant. Then the show begins tomorrow morning at 4am for me. Hmmmm, wonder if there will be any sleep involved since I'm rooming with 2 other women...LOL! emoticon I will get up bright and early to get my meal on, allow my body to do what it needs to, have my superstitious shower and be prepared to catch our shuttle to La Gray field (FW Cats minor league baseball team play there), where the race start is. The race director is allowing the Galloway runners to start at 6:30am with the walkers since we do a 2:1 ratio run/walk method. I believe there will be several more Galloway runners there but us 5 are part of the same pace group within our big team. Myself and my running buddies Dan and Becky all will usually stay with the group throughout the race, but most of the time we kind of split off and do our own thing towards the end. However, tomorrow might be different as our pace group leader, Chuck, has requested us try to stay with the group and strict orders to make this exactly what it is, A TRAINING RUN!!! The rest of our Galloway group did their training run today at White Rock lake, it was a 24-25 miler. This is our last LONG run prior to the BIG SHOW. So with all of this said, I will keep this in my mind, exactly what it is, all training!!! emoticon

Hopefully, this blog will break the ice for future blogs because I have some upcoming great things going to be happening over the next couple of months and plans for an awesome 2011!!! I will blog about my training run tomorrow if my brain is still in tact. emoticon

I am off to run a few errands here in town before we head out!

    wow, my longest run is only 18 miles and I can't imagine doing a marathon distance!! Good luck, it'll be great!

    Oh please keep bloggging. I'm super nervous about moving up to the marathon distance. I'm glad to follow your journey. It must be nice having other Galloway runners in your area. The closest Galloway groups to St. Louis ar 4 hours away. When I finally decided too move from the half distance to the full I also decided to go with e-coaching. I think I'm pretty good at reading and following directions---but once you actually pay money for the "official advice" I think your less likely to "cheat".
