Work and Workouts

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

I had three of the people who report to me call in this past week (starting a week ago Saturday). Each had a death or serious illness in the immediate family. One tried to contact me via my cell phone but I did not get the message. I felt as if I had let them down because being available to staff is a very high priority for me.

I went to the gym as I usually do. Working out after work really helps eliminate the effects of stress and remove the stress hormones from the body. This was particularly true in relation to the person who could not contact me. When I went in to work, I was upset because the person failed to report to work. Only later when I called did I discover why. So I was double whammied: my anger was missplaced and I felt as if I had failed that person...

Looking back, the anger issue is my issue and not theirs. I need more patience in that I should understand the reasons behind someones actions before I jump to 'contusions' for the failure part, I need to just accept that sometimes I cannot be all for all.

That is where the workouts come in. I use the workouts to burn out the frustration that accumulates from work; all the little stresses that build up and add to the eroding of health. Losing my health prevents me from being there when staff need me to be there which is the even larger issue...

Emotions can be volatile at times. We have all been there in one way or another. As I read what you wrote I thought to myself, the people who work for him must know he cares about being there for them. Your feelings must show in your words and I believe it most likely comes through. People can see our hearts in so many unrevealed ways.

At times there are days when our worst emotions show through, but most people can still remember the true person behind their words and actions. It is in doing the daily things which add up to our total character, personality, and future which defines ones spirit and soul. Well, that is just me, and how I feel, and the things I felt after reading your blog. Please write more often. I am interested in reading your blogs. I will stop by some other time. It is a nice way to get to know you better.
