An 'a-ha' moment in my closet

I am always amazed that I never have anything to wear- yet my closet is jammed packed with clothes and shoes.
And I finally realized that I am a 'comfort shopper' to go along with my 'comfort eating'.
Whenever I am not feeling comfortable in my own skin- I shop. Purely impulse shopping- which results in trendy and sometime awkward purchases.
Here are some examples of impulse/comfort shopping items:
* A white denim jacket- that I have NEVER worn- but refuse to toss because I know one day I will find the perfect outfit to wear it with to the perfect occasion. (yeah, right)
*A cute pink twill jacket with ruffle accents. It's too cute- maybe 13 year old cute- but I can't part with it because....it's soooo cute!
*Several dresses that I wore when I was 75-80 lbs lighter. Inspiration dresses? Maybe. However, when I do fit in them again- they will be sooooo out of fashion. But hey, maybe by the time I fit in them again they will have come back into fashion?
*5 button down white shirts. One too long, one too tight, one too thin, one too short, one too froofie- yet every time I flip through the latest Coldwater Creek catalog- I have the overwhelming urge to buy another one.
So I am going to try to resist comfort shopping again- just go into my closet and shop there. Or better yet, I will try to be active- maybe clean out my closet- to get my mind on something else.
I hope to save my shopping trips to when I have to toss clothes because they are all too big. That is my goal!
