Yerba Mate, my new Best Friend!

I am so excited about how my journey is progressing that I had to share with my Spark community.
I recently heard Lisa Rinna speak at a Women's Expo. Love her or hate her, she in undeniably fabulous at 48. During Q&A, someone asked her secret. She shared her exercise regime and also that she drinks Yerba Mate daily. I don't know what possessed me (perhaps my frustration with diet aids and things that are "supposed to work" but really are nothing more than a placebo or distraction tactic?), but before I could stop myself I shouted, "Tastes like dirt!" She replied, try it again, its wonderful with a little soy milk and agave nectar or honey.
My mother had sent me a large box of this foul substance a while back and I actually thought of tossing it or giving it away, but it was still in my cupboard so I gave it a try. I use unsweetened Almond milk... TIP: its only 40 calories a cup and its yummy on cereal or in coffee. Instead of agave or honey, I opted to skip the extra calories and use Splenda. What followed was an instant transformation, it was smooth and so yummy, I LOVE IT!.

Since that day, the first week in October, I have been drinking Yerba Mate daily. One bag will make 2-3 eight ounce cups, so I reuse the bag once or twice and that lasts me until about noon. WARNING: Its a perfect way to start your day, but do not drink at night. This is definitely a caffinated tea! In less than one month I have dropped 6 pounds!!!

I had always heard Green Tea was great for many reasons - increasing metabolism, antioxidants, diuretic, etc., Yerba Mate makes me feel full, reduces my hunger and cravings, and allows me to make good choices. I am a voracious eater, and an emotional eater, its really hard for me to leave something on my plate, but I have been doing just that. I really don't believe it myself. I feel great and plan to keep this up. finally feel like I will be able to reach my goals!

Some more tips - I like the ECOTEAS brand best, you can get it online or at Whole Foods. Guayaki brand is available at Trader Joes and Safeway, its good, just a little bitter compared to the EcoTeas brand. Nothing milk and sweetener cant fix.

If you have any safety concerns, what I like about Yerba Mate is that it is a traditional South American beverage so we have centuries of case studies to attest to its safety. Yerba mate is the national drink of Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Southern Brazil where it is consumed 6 to 1 over coffee. In Argentina, over 90% of the people drink yerba mate. For centuries, South America’s Ache Guayaki tribe have prized yerba mate for its rejuvenative effects, tremendous invigoration, focus, and nourishment.

The leaves of the rainforest mate tree naturally contain 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, abundant antioxidants. The Pasteur Institute and the Paris Scientific society in 1964 concluded "it is difficult to find a plant in any area of the world equal to mate in nutritional value" and that yerba mate contains "practically all of the vitamins necessary to sustain life."

Lastly, I just want to expressly state that I have no ties to this product - Its about $8 for 24 bags so you have nothing to lose, but pounds!
