Half Marathon Training - Week 4

Here are my original goals for week 4 and where I ended up is in ( ):

Week 4 Goals (Oct 18 – Oct 24)
RUN 14-15 miles total
279;(Did 10.73 total - 8.73 was running plus 2 miles walking)

Mon – Day Off ~ (Day off for Anniversary)

Tue – Yoga / run 2-3 miles ~ (ran 2.73 miles at lunch and walked 2 miles at home with Rex)

Wed – YogaWorks class – 2 mile walk with Rex or GYM with Jeff ~ (Day off)

Thur – Yoga – Loop from home -3 miles and a gruesome hill ~ (Ran 6 miles)

Fri – OFF ~ (Day off)

Sat – Try for a gym workout if possible in Vegas ~(Day off)

Sun – Run 6 miles in Vegas. (Day off – did long run Thursday)

Evaluation of my 4th week: This was a tough week for me. We had a lot of hurdles with our house that got in the way of my workouts. There was crazy weather with heavy rain, lightening and our scared dog from the horrid thunder storms. I ran a 2.73 mile loop on Tuesday at lunch and am hoping to do the same again this week. On Thursday I completed a 6 mile run with my hubby and our friend JP. It was the first time I felt strong for the duration of a run over 4 miles. I was running with two men who are faster, stronger and generally in better shape than I felt I was in. Before the run started I ate a few squares of Shot Blocks for energy and drank a little Cytomax. Both turned out to be a good option and I felt they helped my endurance on the run. I set the pace and we set out to from Bridgeport Lake and headed up the Paseo’s in the dark towards Copperhill. It was fun to have another person to chat with, swap stories – and even bust out a few Marine Corps cadences from back in the day. We took one minute break at the top of Copperhill and a few short breathers while we waited for stop lights to change on McBean on our journey back. By the last curve as we drove it home sprinting back around the lake I finished strong. I was able to keep up with the boys the entire route and beat my goal pace of 11:30 with a finish time of 64:45 and a pace of under 11 minute miles.

I also wanted to mention how much I love my new running pants I got from Lulumon! I absolutely love them! I have used them 4-5 times and most recently on this last 6 miler. I notice a tremendous difference in my performance and attribute it to the compression (what they call 4-way stretch power luxtreme™). The pockets are amazing and perfectly placed. I no longer need to run with my water/fuel belt on long runs ~ I can just fill up the pouches with keys and gu (and pray for a water fountain)! Pricing is ludicrous – but I can’t say it wasn’t worth it.

We were out of town the balance of the weekend and I am sure that taking 4 extra days off this week may hurt me a little – but we are jumping back on the wagon today and steering towards our finish line!

Week 5 Goals (Oct 25-Oct 31)
RUN 15 miles total

Mon - Yoga / 2.73 mile run
Tue – Yoga / run 3 miles
Wed – YogaWorks class – 2 mile walk with Rex or GYM with Jeff
Thur – Run 7 miles – long run for the week
Fri – OFF
Sat - Gym workout / run 2 miles
Sun – Run 3 miles 3 Beers Race at Central Park!
