They say I have ADD but - Oh look, it's a birdie!

Sunday, October 24, 2010

I'll be 59 soon and I just found out I have ADD. I'm stunned and very relieved. It's not that I'm lazy. There's a reason I almost never finish anything.

It's ADD. I say ADD rather than ADHD, because I don't have a hyperactive component. I have an appointment to see a therapist on Nov 1. In the meantime, I've been reading primarily a book called "Driven to Distraction."

So today, I tried an experiment. I scheduled the whole day - a Sunday. I'm doing pretty well. I have a couple more things to do tonight including an hour of TV.

All for now

Wow Pesha, that's quite a discovery for an adult. Good luck finding the right solutions and good for you fighting it! I'm interested to know how it's diagnosed in adults. I see it in all stages in my students and it's difficult to see how some of them struggle like a ping pong ball bouncing (some their attention, some their entire bodies.....ALL DAY). Keep that sense of humor going and you'll be halfway to winning the battle! emoticon

I think I should get tested for this too... At least now you understand your issues, and know why it is hard to finish what you start. A list and schedule. hmmm... maybe that would work. Do you think I could get the whole schedule done before WOW- A Corvette I got distracted???

So my Sunday went pretty well. There was one thing I didn't do because I didn't have the right technology and one other thing that I moved to tonight. I did reconcile 2 months of bank statements and credit card statements which needed to be done but wasn't on the list.

I hate making the list and toward the end of the day I was rebelling but on the whole, I'm going to keep doing it.

Hey Pesha, what a diagnosis! At least it has a name, right? How'd your Sunday turn out with the full scheduling? I know I tend to work better with a schedule...until I rebel against it.

I hope you get some good advice and good techniques -- squirrel! -- and that the book reading adds more --squirrel!-- hey did you see that play on the football game?

ADD can make you feel like your basket is always full of holes and you thought you added water . . . but it's empty again???

the "squirrel" reference if from the movie UP

If you are going to take medication, I hope it works well for you!
