Jogging with the Dogs

Sunday, October 24, 2010

One of my fitness goals is to one day be able to take my dogs for a run. This time last year, that was a laughable goal for certain. Well, today I decided I would take ONE of my dogs to the park and attempt to jog with him for a while. I was feeling good in my new workout clothes and my new sports bra (yes, in smaller sizes...Woo Hoo!) that I got yesterday. I prepared my "dog purse" for the trip with treats, water, bowl, and pooper scoopers. Those of you that know me, know that Rascal is my favorite so I was going to take him. Those of you that know me also know that Rosie is my husband's favorite. So, it "bothered" my husband that I was only going to take Rascal and not Rosie. So, my daughter decided that she wanted to go with me and walk Rosie while I attempted to jog with Rascal. This became to be a detrimental decision. My daughter whined and complained after less than one lap (1/3 mile) that I was going too fast and she was tired. Even though I didn't plan on trying to jog with both dogs, then I ended up with both while she sat on a bench and waited.

So, the results are that I jogged/walked my dogs for a mile today. My next goal will be to jog a mile (no walking) with them and then hopefully be able to pick up the speed and go even longer. Plus, lesson learned...next time, I will be going with ONE dog by myself! LOL

I am giving myself a pat on the back for today. My doggies are thanking me for the trip to the park today and they will love me even more when I am able to run with them longer.

The C25K isn't easy...but stick with it. Completing my first 5K was an emotionally monumental time in my life. The time was extremely slow (42 minutes)...but I ran the WHOLE way. You can do it...and having a canine buddy only sweetens the deal! :) P.S. Mine are bassets...so there's no running unless food is involved...haha!

Oh! Your dogs are beautiful. I'm so glad that you treated them to an outing. I'm sure they were thrilled. I know mine get super excited if they see me preparing for an "outing". LOL I too want to take one at a time but can't figure out how to do it without hurting the other ones feelings. They are so sensitive!

Keep going! I'm really proud of you!

Great job! I have a feeling if I tried to jog with my dog, the dog would be the one doing the complaining. I know he CAN run (after all, he proved it last week while trying to chase down my dad's tractor). He's just generally lazy (and, to be fair, he is pretty old).

Yay!! That's awesome! I'm sorry I missed out! Luckily, the Claritin started working this afternoon. You'll be running with the dogs for miles before you know it! emoticon
