goodbye old friend...

Sunday, October 24, 2010

although i haven't officially made any kind of announcement. i have quit smoking. i managed to make it through one night at work without a cigarette. not too bad....although there's a lot more to keep me occupied's definitely a more stressful enviroment. now here i sit at home after a long shift...feeling like i should be smoking that last cigarette before i head to bed. at least i won't have too much time to think about smoking over the next few days. glad to be done with such a gross habit.

Hang in there. Each minute that you do without that cigarette is a victory. Many of us have 'been there, done that' and I know you will succeed!! Good luck!!

YES!!!! You CAN do it! It's hard, but honestly, not has hard as dieting. I mean you always have to buy food, you have to have control over what you buy and how much you eat. You can't say "I'm a non-eater". But you don't have to buy cigarettes. So if you are done with buying them, you can be done with smoking them. You can look in the mirror every day and say "I'm a non-smoker" Say it with conviction.
I quit after 20 years and it's been 10 now. Oh there's times even now when I think I'd like to take my coffee out on the porch and have a smoke. But I hate that stale cigarette smell on people's clothes now. I like that I don't have to go outside when it's cold and rainy to take a break, that I have less colds. That I'm not burning up all that money. Be tough and strong! You CAN do it!

Congrats, and keep it up! If you start back, don't kick yourslef, it is a tough habit to break. I'm on day 67 and still want one, occasionally, although I haven't had one. Good luck to you!

You and your old friend went through a lot together. You can do it. At first you are a smoker who isn't smoking, then you will move to a smoker who doesn't smoke and then a former smoker and finally a non-smoker. Give yourself credit for each passage. It takes a few years for the entire process.
