5K with Pictures

So, I can officially call myself a runner. Well, sort of. I did not run the whole time. Okay, so I walked a good part of it. I know I could have done better but I am really happy with myself. My goals were to, first and foremost, finish, make it in under an hour, and not be last. I managed all three.

Okay, so here is how today went. I arrived in Rio Hondo at 6:30 to set up. At 7:30 my kids and I went to find a restroom and get ready to race. Then I met Becky! We have talked alot on Spark but this was the first time I met her in person and I have to tell you, she is just as wonderful in person. I really enjoyed meeting her. Here are some pictures before the race:

Then it was time to run. Becky and I started off together going at a good pace but I started to fall behind. I ended up at the end with one other woman named Cindy. We walked, jogged, and talked our way through the race. She is doing a 10K next weekend in Washington! There were these kids ahead of us. One boy about ten-years-old and two girls who were around thirteen-years-old. They stayed just ahead and when we would start running and would pass them they would sprint ahead. It was pretty cute. Well, Cindy and I got to the last quarter mile and Becky ran back to meet me (told you she is a sweetie). She had finished about 4-5 minutes ahead of me. So she cheered me on and I began to sprint. Remember that one of my goals was not to be last. I pulled ahead of Cindy and hit the finish line at 44 minutes! (I can't remember the seconds but it was under 30) I couldn't believe my time! I am still in awe because I walked so much of it, I thought it would be much closer to an hour. That is 6 minutes faster than my time yesterday! So I reached all of my goals.

Now, I want to brag on Becky a little, or a lot. She really deserves it. Becky came in second in her age group! I was so proud of her.

So it was a good day. I am so happy and can't wait to hit the track and try to reproduce that time but I think I need to take it a little easier tomorrow. Becky asked if I wanted to find another race to do in November. I'm game! This was so much fun!
