I gotta crow...

Friday, October 22, 2010

Last week I declared war on the bugs in my house. I have had an invasion of brown moths for the past year in my pantry. Glass jars, organic traps, tossing the dry goods, moving the dry goods out to the garage pantry, nothing stopped the buggers.
Last week I decided to move the food from the pantry cupboard inside to a different cupboard, cleaned out the old stuff, and then the cupboards. The top cupboard, over my head is where we keep the liquor...we aren't big drinkers. I was in cleaning mode so I pulled up the step ladder and started hauling stuff out of the cabinet. Low and behold, that's where command central for the moths was. It was quite disgusting, but I cowgirled up and cleaned it out really well, then transfered all the foodstuffs to another side of my kitchen and put cooking items in the old food pantry.

Saturday was flea bomb day. We have cats, the cats had fleas, the fleas were jumping on me. It had to change. We planned the attacked, closed up the house, set off 3 bombs, went to the movies, came back to open the house and out for burgers while the house aired out. The instructions on the can said wash any food prep items that came in contact with the spray. Taking that as a sign, I decided to clean my kitchen. I mean really clean the kitchen, everything out of every cupboard, every item washed or wiped down, all the cabinets wiped out, drawers emptied, resorted, cleaned of crumbs in the corners, duplicate items removed. It has taken me all week working 3 or 4 hours a day. Today I finished the refrigerator, the last item on my list. My kitchen is clean, no junk, no crumbs, no sticky shelves, no old food, no moths and no fleas. It is really clean and done! I love it!

You go girl!!! Wow... emoticon You are a powerhouse!!
I had problems with fleas when we were first married and moved into our new newlywed home. We didn't have any animals, but the previous owners did. I couldn't even sit in the living room cause of the little buggers jumping and eatin me up! So we had the exterminators come and spray. That got rid of them.
Now at our house we bug bomb our house due to the flies and the ladybugs(the brown ones).
Now you have a well earned time of relaxation!!! emoticon

I had the same infestation years ago before we remodeled our kitchen...the larvae are so small and I didn't see them until they started crawling around and then the moths came...the only way to get rid of the critters is to do exactly what you did...it's one heck of a way to get a clean kitchn!!! ( But oh so worth it!)

Good job. It always makes you feel better to get everything cleaned doesn't it.

FYI....The house we bought before this one, was infested with fleas when we moved in. We didn't know it and we thought they were going to kill our poor little maltese.

We had a guy tell us instead of bombing the house, to start with the bomb in a back room, hold it and push the button. Then he had us walk through the house spraying everything, furniture, rugs, ect. with it pointed down. He said just to head toward the door so you can high tell it out when you get to it. That way it was spraying down, and not up to get on the counters and in cupboards. We have done it that way ever since. Luckily now we just have an indoor cat and don't have to worry to much about it. I do put the Frontline on him everyonce in awhile.
