Staycation & Running

Friday, October 15, 2010

Dan and I have been "stay"cationing this week. Unlike past times when we've staycationed, we were mindful this time to create fun, relaxing, and enjoyable days together. It's been, so far, a truly lovely time.

This morning, as part of our time together, we decided to go for a jog. What was neat about this for me is that Dan and I could actually reasonably run together. Now, mind you, Dan averages a 7:30-mile pace typically for the distance we ran today (about 4 miles). But it wasn't out of his range to jog with me at my 10:30-mile pace since that's about the pace he keeps on his long runs. It's just nice to be able to run together and not feel like he's practically WALKING along side of me (he IS 6'3" vs. my 5'8").

The leaves are at peak color around these parts (we're just north enough and in the "mountains" in NJ enough). Here's my favorite picture Dan climbed up to take while we were running:

Hey noww ladies, don't let your height be a reason for slowing you down! I'm only 5'0" and I completely feel ya, it's definitely more challenging for me to run with my 5'9" boyfriend: for ever two strides he takes, I need three. But with practice, it get's better! When I met him two years ago, I couldn't run for longer than 25 seconds. Now, every Friday we run together for over 12 miles, and it only takes us about 1hr40min. Shorter distances we avg 7:30, all it is is just practice! Don't give up, you got this!! :D

Beautiful picture. This might sound weird, but it actually embodies how I picture you when I read your blogs. I'm glad to know that I wasn't too far off base.

Sounds like a nice staycation, and I'm glad that you had some quality time with Dan.

If you ever lose your inspiration, look at that picture next to a "before" picture! It's hard to believe that in such a short time such a major transformation has occurred. I don't just mean the trim size, and the athletic look. I mean the desire to spend vacation time keeping fit, too. What a beautiful area you live in. I am so happy for you! Keep it up. You are an awesome role model for anyone seeking to be their best self.

    Love the picture!!!

I think those moments are the moments we recall all of our lives. It's not the cruises and the villa's that stick with us, they are nice, but it's the quiet time we share with those special people that deepen our lives and make all this so very worthwhile.

    Glad you are enjoying yourself
