A big turn off

Thursday, October 14, 2010

I had an eye opening moment today. We were having a lunch brought in from a sales rep and they asked yesterday what we wanted brought in. Everyone decided we hadn't had pizza for a while and that sounded good. At first I was concerned along with one of our unit clerks because she has just started Weight Watchers. He was picking it up from Pizza Hut. I looked it up quickly on line and told her,"We can do this- have them order one thin crust veggie and we will each have 2 pieces." We were looking forward to being in control at lunch and being able to enjoy it with others. So often we end up falling into the temptation when lunches are brought because we aren't prepared, they are free and by that time we are usually VERY hungry! So we were pleased. But then of all things, in the morning the rep called and said he was at Panera's and should he bring that instead and much to our dismay, two people said that's fine without checking with anyone.
When the food came, it was in these huge individual boxes with a very large sandwich, chips, and a huge cookie! this is where my moment of revelation came in. I looked at those boxes and was very turned off by those dressing laden sandwiches and just the glutenous amt of food that everyone was planning on eating. I just couldn't do it! It turned me off! My WW coworker had taken one already and was trying to look it up on line and realized the whole sandwich was 900 some cals.! At that point, I left for the cafeteria at work and got an Olive garden type salad without the croutons and a dish of cottage cheese and brought it back. I got a few looks but I don't care. We had a plan and it fell through so I went to plan B dog gone it and nobody better give me any sass!
My point is I have made a very gradual change on how I view food alot of times. I still turn to it to many times with my emotions but my gerneral attitude has definitely changed. this made me very happy to realize that I am making progress even though the scale doesn't always show it. Its good to look at our successes sometimes, isn't it?
Blessing to all who read this. emoticon

    Hi SLIMSOLO10;

    Just stopped by as you are one of my Spark friends and I wanted to see how you are doing. Give you a A+ for your decision and you are on your way to a healthy life style. I very rarely eat out or order in and even when I worked I bought off the steam table at the store, a good lunch. When they put the price up and changed the food I opted out and just made a lunch from what we had for dinner. I never buy at fast foods and now just cook my own food. Right now I am making chili with rice for tomorrow. I am by my self but I like food, but also I watch what I eat. Every day fruits and veggies, 5 or more very little starch foods, chicken, turkey, fish and deer meat. Another trick I have used is eating off a dessert place with just 1 helping each meal and I have lost weight and kept it off.

    Stay true to yourself in your healthy eating, routine exercises and reach your goals. May God bless you always.

    Great not falling into the trap of eating what everybody else eats. I have felt like I must do as everybody else so often.

    emoticon 'Good for you for sticking to your convictions. That shows you are serious about your plan for a healthier life style. Too bad your friend didn't do the same. Chances are you'll be hearing her regrets before long.

    You've made a great point. I'm new here and once was fit and healthy. When I was, I remember having the same reaction you did. As time went on, I had that reaction more often and it got to where no one and nothing could stand in the way of my goals. Unfortunately, I fell on some difficult times and let all of that hard work go. By joining sparkpeople, I hope to overcome my weaknesses and be that healthy happy person again. And to do it, I'm going to have to react as you did today. Good job and thanks for the motivation. You reminded me that I CAN renew my determination to not let anyone stand in my way, including myself.
